Windows Service does not start on reboot
by Guest Charlie Russel - MVP- 1 reply

Try setting the service for delayed automatic start. (that's a new option in Server 2k8.) You're likely running into a timing issue. That being said, the service needs to be a _service_, with no console or active user logon required. But I'm assuming here that you've met that requirement and it's a real service. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "Usman Jamil" <usman@advcomm.net> wrote in message news:utKD2w$FJHA.224@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Hi > > I'm running domain controller and I have a service that I want to run > under a particular active directory user. PCIIDEX.SYS BSOD
by Guest Clayton- 4 replies

Awhile back when clean installing Vista 64 I was getting a pciidex.sys BSOD towards the end of the install. I have done a few clean installs and sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't, I think it started doing this when I started installing Vista 64 with SP-1. I thought it maybe the IDE DVDRW drive I was using to install but it is also happening using a SATA DVDRW drive, now that I have a new computer it has no IDE connections on the X38 motherboard so I have ruled out the drives as being the cause of the problem, the pciidex.sys is the PCI IDE Bus Driver Extension described my Microsoft, someone at one stage pointed me to a patch but it is pointl…

New Nforce Drivers

This may have already been posted here, just wanted to note there are new Nvidia Nforce drivers out, dated 9/12, version 15.23 Vista 64 bit - http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista64_15.23.html XP 64 bit - http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp64_15.23.html I was running 9.64, in Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I upgraded to these a few minutes ago without issue. Too early for me to comment on any noticeable difference, I have read in other forums, some folks reporting improved network performance, and improved usb performance/ responsiveness. There also is a new " away mode ", not sure exactly what that is or does. -- Don

Delayed net connectivity

After boot-up, and then launch IE, the browser just sits there empty for several minutes sometimes. Then, the home page pops up finally and web browsing continues normally after that. During the time the browser is blank, there is no "Local Area Network" icon (with the little blinking green lights) in the system tray. After the web starts working, the little network icon (with the two little monitors) appears in the tray. IE 7, 32 bit. WinXP64 SP2. It used to work no problem. Nothing in my hardware has changed. What gives?

Sharing violation
by Guest Tom- 1 reply

We have several Excel spreadsheets that are shared between six workstations. This week alone, we have been kicked out of one specific spreadsheet 5 or 6 times and have to "save as..." and rename the workbook. The error message that we are receiving indicates that we have committed a "sharing violation". Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, is there a solution? Out IT guy says that we shouldn't share. If so...why does Excel have a sharing option? -- Tom

Planning new WXP Pro 64-bit install: any tips?
by Guest Ken- 6 replies
I am going to build a workstation for my daughter, who is a design student and is going to run only design programs such as 3D Maxx, which takes advantage of the 64-bit architecture. I am fairly familiar with XP Pro 32-bit,as we have 5 installs in the family, but I am not familiar with the 64-bit program. Are there any tricks I should be aware of for an install? Particular quirks of the 64-bit version? Is there a website that I should know about if problems arise or is this newsgroup likely to provide all that I would need? Just trying to be prepared... Thanks Ken K

by Guest Don- 71 replies

Hey gang, I think I have messed up here. I just installed 64 bit Vista Ultimate, retail full version, in what I thought was a dual boot environment. I added a new sata hard drive, and installed Vista on it. Now, I do not get an option when I boot to choose wich OS to boot to, it only boots into Vista. Under Vista, it shows as my C drive, I see the partion on the other hard drive my XP Pro is on, however under Vista it shows as drive E? Dangit, I thought I had read enough to know what I was doing here, but apparently I did something I should not have. I would sure appreciate any help here, my XP Pro is my main OS and I desperately need to be able t…
