x64 firefox and thunderbird
by Guest miso@sushi.com- 2 replies

I accidentally let Thuderbird attempt to install the latest rev to version 1.5. In the past, this update didn't work and I spent a bit of time getting the old version running. [Note the accident was due to me typing and having thunderbird steal the focus, allowing what I was typing for another program end up telling thunderbird to do the upgrade.] This time I couldn't get back to the older rev (1.5). Version 2.0 doesn't install on my system either. Now to get to the point (and forgive me if this was posted already), I found a website with firefox and thunderbird compiled for x64. http://www.vector64.com/WindowsBuilds.html So far, both the 64 bit Thunderbir…

nForce SATA update BSOD
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies
In spite of having rejected the Serial ATA optional update for NForce chipsets offered by Windows Update, "it" silently decided that it was imperative and installed by itself at around 2:00 am while I was peacefully sleeping. Woke up at 7:00, went to check my e-mail but the only thing I could see was a BSOD with crash dump and etc. Powered off, rebooted, and Vista x64 would freeze when assemlbing the desktop. Mouse activity, yes. Response: none Root cause: nForce Serial ATA installed. Rebooted, F8, Last Known Good Configuration and everything was back to normal. Serial ATa controller was back to the one released by NVidia during February (version 15.00, …

Server print queue question
by Guest Jason- 3 replies
Hello, Was hoping someone might have some experience with this: I currently have a Windows 2003 Standard Server acting as my current print server, Operating System is 32-bit. Until recently all my PCs were 32-bit, but now I have a batch of 64-bit PCs coming in. I am planning for their installation, have necessary drivers, etc. However, I was wondering what the best way for printer installation might be? Does anyone know if I can install the 64-bit version of the driver as an "additional printer driver" to the already existing print queue? Or perhaps I can install the same printer a second time and rename it as Printer-x64 or something and share it…

Latest Updates and IIS
by Guest MCSEnOKC- 0 replies

I recently installed the latest updates to a x64 Windows Server 2003 with WSUS 3.0 (64 bit version) installed. After the reboot, WSUS was not working. After investigation, I discovered IIS was now in 32 bit mode instead of the 64 bit mode needed by WSUS 3.0. I found a script that restored IIS to the 64 bit version and WSUS was alright. The updates installed based on KB936357, KB926122, & KB925398. Has anyone else seen this issue with the lastest group of Microsoft Updates?

Managing system services from remote computer with GPMC
by Guest Nathan- 5 replies
Hi, We are running Win2k3 x64 as a TS and the GPMC isn't supported. We have a need to allow a single user to be able to start/stop a couple of services for an application installed on the server. This worked ok on our 32bit TS install as we could load the GPMC and edit the services. So my question is, how can I use the GPMC to manage system services on a remote computer so I can allow this user to manage these services? TIA Nathan

Router - wired Vista 64-bit to wireless Mac?
by Guest TJD- 0 replies
I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my main computer with a high speed cable modem. I want a wireless connection from this to a MacBook Pro which connects by Wi-Fi via their internal Airport system. I have a D-Link router now (108G MIMO) but, although it works fine on the Mac side, it seems to produce problems in the wired Vista 64-bit connection (processes not ending, slowdowns, connection problems). Are there some routers that are completely compatible with my setup (or am I missing something here)?

XP X64 & https:\\
by Guest io- 2 replies

Hello: I recently went to make a purchase online & found that the page where my credit card info was required did not appear to be secure. In other words, there was no "https" in the address bar & no "lock" appearing in the toolbar. This page did contain a verisign insignia, presumably advertising its security. I declined the purchase and sent a note to the company regarding the "security" of their site. I received a message from them with a link to their secure ordering page, clicked the link in the email (using Outlook Express 6) and was taken to the same "insecure" site. I then copied $ pasted the link into IE7's address bar & was taken t…

Memory allocation error after SP2 on X64
by Guest ExperimentalEconomist- 4 replies

Does anyone know if there is an x64 version of hotfix 894472? The 32-bit version is only available by special request (or from the Stata Corp. website, where it lives with MS permission), and I can't get a clear answer from Microsoft about the existence of a 64-bit version. On 32-bit XP this hotfix, 894472, repairs the memory allocation error induced by SP2 that causes a specific DLL (Xpsp2res.dll) to load in the middle of memory, at 0x20000000 (this info is according to the MS support web page for 894472). This location for the DLL fragments the memory space, and prevents software that needs a large block of contiguous memory from being allocated th…

64-Bit Scrolling
by Guest Jonathan Wood- 2 replies
I noticed that all documentation for the SCROLLINFO structure (used with SetScrollInfo) just uses int or UINT for structure members as opposed to INT_PTR. Does this mean 64-bit Windows does not support 64-bit scroll values? I have an application where the scroll range and position could exceed 32 bits. Has anyone already worked out the algorithm to make this work on Win32? Thanks. -- Jonathan Wood SoftCircuits Programming http://www.softcircuits.com

I contacted LINE6 and they say they have no plans to make an upgrade tp this system at anytime in the future. So my question is - is there any way to switch from 64bit to 32 bit within this OS.

solidworks and antivirus conflicts?
by Guest Ann- 0 replies

Okay, this is an annoying problem. I built a new machine with an Intel Core2 Duo and Intel 965 board, 8gb ram, nvidia quadro fx560 and xp pro x64. Our company runs Solidworks, COSMOSWorks. The install was standard and I installed all the updates. The only thing I had a problem with is finding a functional audio driver which isn't a problem because this machine doesn't need audio to do what it was built to do. I got all the other drivers working just fine and just disabled the audio. I set it up on our domain and installed Solidworks Premium and COSMOSWorks. After it is all installed, I run the program and open up an assembly. It opens, WOW, super f…

Problem when installing applications made with InstallShield under VIsta 64-bit
by Guest erikhamba@yahoo.de- 5 replies
Hi all, When I install different programs which were apparently made with InstallShield under my Windows Vista 64-bit systems, the following error message appears: The program or feature "\\??\D:\Setup.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if 64-bit Windows is compatible. I know that it is due to the fact that the bootstrap loader is 16-bit, but Microsoft apparently has a fix around this (replacing the 16-bit stub by a 32-bit one). However, this doesn't always seem to work. Does anybody know how to install applications packaged with InstallShield which still have a 16-bi…
