But it doesn't happend: the 'printers folder' of the server is empty. Where's the problem? Thanks in advance Agostino cedapsrl

We have a Windows 2000 domain and a Windows 2003 terminal server. We are trying to see if we can limit most users to only having the option for one terminal session at a time to the server but do want others to be able to have more than one. How can we achieve this in the best way? Thanks. Robbie

Printing is inconsistent
by Guest DeNacho- 1 reply

i have a Win2K3 SP1 TS server. i cannot get printing to work consistently. i found several articles on the GP for Fallback driver and enabled that on the server. everyone can see their local printers, but not everyone can print to them. for example, my home printer shows up fine, but when i try to print from Notepad, for example, it just spews out blank pages. in another vendor-specific app, it's garbage. is this just a simple driver issue? i'm thinking it is, but we don't really have the means to install every driver for every printer that might be out in our user community. i thought the Fallback driver was supposed to take care of that. any thoughts?

win server 2003 sp1 - cannot change TS idle session timeout
by Guest kwadz- 2 replies
In our development environment, I can go to Terminal Services Configuration\Connections - RDP-Tcp properties - sessions and check the top box for override user settings, then select a value for all three of the timeout options (end a disconnected session, active session limit, idle session limit). However, in our operational system, when I check the override box, the end a disconnected session and idle session limit drop downs are still grayed out, preventing me from changing their settings. Specifically, I want to change the idle timeout from 15 min to 2 days, since our users keep getting booted whenever they grab a cup of coffee. I had one of …

Installing Excel 2003 to Windows 2003 Terminal Server
by Guest Will- 2 replies
After instaling Office 2003 Small Business Edition to a W2K3 Terminal Server in Application Mode, an ordinary user on the box is unable to start Excel. Excel 2003 starts to the main windows and then presents the modal dialog with the error "Feature is not available" and after hitting OK on the dialog Excel quits. The Microsoft page for installing Office 2003 to a terminal server says that you can use the non Enterprise versions of Office as long as the users have individual licenses to use Office, and that is the case here. There are only two Excel users on this machine and both have licenses reserved to this one computer. Is there some trick to getting E…

I have a Terminal Server running in a domain. All the User Profiles are roaming profiles which were set via an Active Directory Group Policy. In fact the same group policy deletes the locally cached profile on logout. The problem is the boot drive is running out of disk space during the workday when usres are logged in becasue the locally cached profiles are saved to this boot drive. I have another drive partition that has plenty of space and I need to know how to have the Terminal Server save the local profiles to this new drive, as opposed to the default c:\Documents and Settings.... please help -mike

Using Scanner with TS2003
by Guest Xavier- 1 reply
Hello, I met a new customer who is currently running TS2003. This is a small shop with 5 people. There is one PC (XP SP2) and 4 Wyse S-10 terminals. There is currently one scanner attached to the PC and the customer expressed the following need: they want to have one scanner on each desk. I would like to check if the following reasoning is correct: - scanner redirection is not supported without 3rd party application like http://www.remote-scan.com - Given the fact that Wyse S10 are not XPe devices, I can't install Remote-Scan on these boxes - I could connect 4 scanners (USB) to the TS (using 'active' cables, 5m length) and dispose them on the users d…

I would like to set up and test my Access app running over the Internet using Terminal Services. I need some beginner help on the hardware and operating system I will need to do these tests. Could someone check my assumptions and let me know if I am on the right track? As I understand it: - I will need a server desktop or laptop with MS Server 2000 or 2003 installed on it. Both come with up to 5 CAL licenses for running TS. - I already have a high speed internet connection - I will need a workstation running XP Pro. XP Pro will include the capability to connect to a server running TS. As I understand it, XP Home does not. My goal is to allow my A…

Hello all, I'm moving a server to another network which already has a server with the same name. They are in different Active Directory domains. Do I need to change the name of the server I am moving? I thought I would ask if anyone has had this situation come up before. The server I'm moving is running: - Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition, SP1 - Terminal Services - Active directory (Domain Controller) - File Server - DNS Server - DHCP Server - MS SQL Server 2000 Currently the server name / IP is: Server1.DomainA.local / 192.168.12.2 The other server with the same hostname is: Server1.DomainB.local / 192.168.0.2 …

Hotfix for 0xc0000006 Unable to Initialize Application KB 818528 Doesn't apply to 2003, but the registry entry is not in 2003 Is this fixed in 2003? There is a registry entry that is necessary in Server 2000 when Terminal Services accesses applications from a Network Share, that requires a hotfix per the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/818528/ The Windows 2000 network redirector maintains the data structures per computer, and therefore if two users on the same terminal server access the same file over the network, they share the same data structures internally. When the first user closes the file, the redirector also closes the file for …

Office 2007 licensing problems with terminal server
by Guest kalarasho- 6 replies

I have been trying to install office 2007 on a win2k3 server for quite a while with no luck. With the MSDN I’m getting the Office Ultimate edition, and after installing when trying to use anything out of it I’m getting the weird message of “this copy of Microsoft office word cannot be used on terminal server”. Microsoft support site says that i need to uninstalled and then re-install with a volume license key. So I uninstalled and obtained a volume license key from the MSDN, but now the installation programs tells me that the key is wrong, and refuses to install. How can I get over these licensing issues??

Remote Desktop Users - Security Group
by Guest Bob- 4 replies

Hi, I find that users who are members of Domain Users and Remote Desktop Users can establish a connection to the Windows 2003 Server just fine. But when this same user attempts to connect to their workstation, the Windows XP TS will not allow the connection. If I add Domain Admin and Administrators to the user, they can then also connect the Windows XP TS. How can I allow a user to connect to their own workstation without making them an Administrator? Thanks! --- Bob

The second software mirrored set of drives is the D drive and contains data. The primary mirror of the C drive set is showing a bad block. What is the best practice for replacing it? Please include whether at any time during the replacement process the D drives should be taken off line.

I am trying to install the TSG Role for Server 2008 Beta 3. According to the step-by-step this requires a certificate and we do have an Enterprise CA running on Server 2003. I am having a hard time generating the required certifcate and could use some help...... The step-by-step says that the Certificate Wizard won't work. I tried and they're right ;-) The only other way (I know of) to get this certificate is with CERTREQ but I can't find an Request Template that will work. Help! TIA

I am using windows vista to connect to an XP machine. I am able to connect to the host machine but i often get screen errors, but more importantly i can not get the host machine to recognize the fact that i am pressing the f1 key...the application that i am using on the host machine requires f1 for a number of functions (not related to help) My screen size is 1920 X 1200 (not sure if this matters, but i have run into problems before) I have also connected to a host machine using GotoMyPC (Citrix) and i have the same problem. Is there any work around or settings that i can change. Thanks Mark

ISA 2006 and remote desktop web connection
by Guest SDavis- 1 reply

Hello there, I am running ISA 2006 STD on a Windows 2003 R2 w/sp2 STD server that is sitting behind a Cisco PIX firewall. Before the PIX security settings were implemented it was allowing traffic via port 443 and port 3389 through. This allowed users via MSIE from the outside to authenticate through the ISA server which would allow access to a dedicated terminal server which they could log into. Now the only access the Cisco PIX firewall is via port 443. When this happened the users could still authenticate in through the ISA server and access the Remote Desktop Web Connection page, type in the name of the server and click on connect, however at the ne…
