  1. Windows 8 has been out for a while now, so all major problems should be solved. You can also change the UI to look like Windows 7. That laptop will and should play YouTube videos with any problems, will be fine for internet browsing, work documents and "basic" games.
  2. Anything with a 478 socket would work, that are similar specs to yours. This should be okay: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-pentium-4-socket-478-prescott-core-28ghz-512kb-l2-cache-69w-oem -Vr
  3. Hi, and welcome to the forum. The message "closing down to prevent damage" from my knowledge only occurs if your PC is overheating, generally the CPU. If the CPU gets above 90 Celsius (ish) most computers and laptops will auto shut down to prevent damage, or further damage. This is caused by a build up of dust and dirt in the heatsink and fan, which directly sits on the CPU. Are you able to take the side panel off of your tower, to see inside if there is build up of dust? (and kitten fur). There "should" be 1 or 2 thumb screws located on the back of the tower, once undone the side panel slides off to gain access to the insides of the tower. If there is nothing similar to this, look around your tower for numbers and markings. This should help determine the model and we can help further. Pictures of the tower/numbers or markings might help also. Personally, I wouldn't try to get your computer running until we know for sure that the issue isn't caused by a build up of dust. -Vr [Edit] Beaten by Ken.
  4. A GTX 660 would be an average upgrade. Nothing too serious but should suit your needs well. Something like this. http://www.ebuyer.com/396967-gigabyte-gv-n660oc-2gd-660-gv-n660oc-2gd The 660 is now an average video card. Mine was nearly twice the price on release. -Vr
  5. Advanced task killer. MX Player... I have to say I am really disappointed in my Galaxy S3... Really slow and frustrating sometimes. Even with nothing running.
  6. Hi. Having a £1000 price tag doesn't mean much. I am more than happy to dig around but I would look away on building your first own for 1k. You can get decent "pre-built" by companies, but do you need the whole setup? Like a monitor, mouse/keyboard, speakers, or a desk/chair? If those are needed your budget for the PC has dropped by around £250. Local companies are better for beginners, I do most of my buying over the internet, and has sometimes been hard work with issues. Getting your first PC is pretty epic, but be patient and really look at the advice that you are given, rushing in can be a huge mistake, we have all done it. -Vr
  7. As long as you have a 500w+ PSU in your PC you shouldn't run into any problems. -Vr
  8. In order for a wireless controller to work, you need the wireless adapter. These come in many shapes and forms, sometimes these wont install properly. But would come up with a message saying "Drive not installed properly" The play and charge kit won't work if your using a cable for the wireless controller. These cables only transfer power to charge the controller, no information is passed between controller and PC. The WNA3100M is a mini wireless dongle, so doesn't effect the controller. You either need a wired controller, or a wireless controller adapter. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Proxima-Direct%C2%AE-Wireless-Receiver-Controller/dp/B00D1CE75I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380961256&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+controller+wireless+adapter If you buy the above for it, it wont initially work like mine. Don't use the CD, check out the comments for installation help. -Vr
  9. No. Intel and AMD need different types of mother board. The AMD 6-core will need a AM3 socket type, which is what you have listed. The Intel i5 need a LGA 1150 socket type. -Vr
  10. Yup, that motherboard will take that CPU. -Vr
  11. Just to clear up first, Powercell = PSU? If you replaced the PSU, this shouldn't be the cause of the problem. A revving sound in my experience is a fan issue, and then no display as well as the noise may indicate a graphics card issue, if you have one installed. Are you able to check all fans in the system and locate if it is one of them causing the noise? Use the back end of a pencil to block each fan on start up, it will take time, but will let you know if there is an issue with the fans, no noise = possibe faulty fan, if you remove the pencil the fan will automatically start, so no damage will come to the components. As for the display, can you check all connections inside the case and cables connecting from case to the monitor? If no luck try another monitor. Let us know how you get on. -Vr
  12. Yeah, all looks sweet. Clearly it's a gaming build, so personally that case is too small and the PSU may not be reliable enough for what it will run. I would spend a little more on case and PSU. The case is going to have a lot of hot running parts inside, so the larger the case the better the breathing room and air flow, so overall life of the parts should be extended, I strongly recommend a larger case. The PSU says SLI and Xfire ready, which may indicate it is an older PSU, and perhaps not up to the task for a big build, though I have a Thermaltake in my old PC which is still going strong after 10 years. Let us know what you think. -Vr
  13. Got a PM asking to take a look. Replied via PM. -Vr
  14. In my honest opinion, it wouldn't be worth the hassle trying to sell it. You would be better off keeping it as a spare. You would fetch very little for it, in the current market.
  15. That is pretty awesome, Nev. :) I went out bashing with my RC buggy with a mate. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/20130909_194927_zps920fcf3a.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/20130909_202756_zpsa47d2979.jpg Yeah it was pretty awful to clean lol. Should have stopped off at a jet wash on the way home.
  16. You can download Adobe Flash on any version of Android. It comes down to if the tablet and version are happy to run an older version of Adobe, which will be a gamble. I'm not 100% positive, but some browsers may play video without any issues, I.E Firefox for Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox I just had a look around and it seems that while the Galaxy Tab 2 is a good tablet, it seems that people are not too happy with their customer service. I'll be buying the newer Nexus 7 later this month. It's all down to preference. I do recommend doing the research into a product first. Nothing worse than buying something that you are later unhappy with.
  17. I'm not a blogger, but I will try and help. Have you heard of "Advanced task killer"? This app kills any open programs and will help reduce lag. Once installed place the widget (widget is a little green android man with a blue cross) on a home screen. Now anytime that you press him any open apps will be closed and will free up memory (will also let you know how much free memory you have). Another option, have you tried blogging using different browsers? Try downloading Mozilla FireFox "Firefox browser for Android" and see if that helps. Let us know how you get on.
  18. No outfit is required for that, Nev. Just thought you should know. I've been purchasing spares for my RC cars. As they are too expensive to get a range of spares handy, now I just buy them when needed. Woop.
  19. On-board graphics might be failing, which is directly connected to the motherboard. That make and similar are known to be decent sandwich toasters, as they love to get hot. That is why over-heating temporarily fixes the issue. The solder under the chip has broken from repeated heating and cooling, when it overheats the connections make contact, meaning it works as long as it is warm. If it is the graphics (had experience with this problem in the past) so I'd be confident in saying it is. Only a new motherboard will fix the issue for sure. However, it will happen again. The price for a new or even used (used may have a similar issues) isn't really worth the hassle. You can buy a new reasonable laptop for around the £300 mark. (Avoid similar model to yours) Download Speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download/standard Speccy can give you information like the temperature of the laptop. Once installed open it up. Leave it open for around 10 minutes and check out the temperature of the CPU and Graphics. On the M5030 I looked at, the idle temps were around 60/70. Let us know what they read. And we can go on from there. -Vr
  20. Spending the extra on the processor is completely up to you. If you are feeling rich at the time, it might be worth the investment. But keep in mind, I don't know of any game that requires more than 4 cores to run. However, I think there are programs that would force games to utilize them. They are pretty similar. The Zotac is what I run, which is why I used it as reference. Again, this one is up to you. Left out a hard drive though. For a new build a new hard drive would be recommended. Keeps everything running smooth.
  21. Hi, Jack. I have put together a list of parts for a reasonable gaming PC. I have annihilated your budget, though come the time when you do buy the parts some will be cheaper. This list is just a reference, it's not set in stone. Come the time when you have the money to buy parts, I would be more than happy to put a new list together. http://www.ebuyer.com/lists/list/215635 Take a good look at the list. If you have any questions about any of the parts, even to why I picked them, I will be happy to try and answer them. The only game that won't run on max settings will be BF4, you'll need a £400-£500 graphics card for that. It should do medium and some highs though. Let me know what you think. -Vr
  22. Hi Jack, I agree with what Ken has mentioned. The fight between AMD and Intel is up to you, though personally, AMD will do you just fine. I will put together a list for you when I get the chance, hopefully by Sunday. I have some long hours the next few days. Do you require a whole setup? Including monitor and other peripherals? -Vr
  23. This is my latest money eater. I got myself into RC cars not so long ago, and here are some videos. :) This is my first car, it is called a HPI Firestorm Flux. Dash cam Chase cam And finally this is my latest project. A small test run on a new car Wheeeeey! :D
  24. I was sure at some point I saw a thread on user videos, though I can't find it now. Feel free to merge if I have been naughty. :) Post your videos!
  25. Hi. Your listed power supply isn't powerful enough to happily run your listed spec. You'll need a safe minimum of 550w The below sentence is my personal opinion..... If your going to use it for gaming, lose the ITX case and motherboard and go full size. You'll end up with airflow issues in such a small case. Vr
