  1. Did you try removing the device from device manager and re-booting? RandyL
  2. Your welcome. Really glad it helped. Take care. RandyL
  3. You're welcome dorsil. Take care. RandyL
  4. Hi dorsil; Right click an empty area of the taskbar. Make sure Lock the Tasbar is not checked. Click on the Taskbar. While holding down on the mouse button drag it to the bottom. You probably won't see it moving while you drag it. Right click an empty area of the taskbar. Check Lock the Tasbar. RandyL
  5. Hi deekay64; It sounds like you have OE set to break apart messages larger then a certain size. Try this. Open OE. Click on Tools>Accounts. Click on the mail account to highlite it. Click Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Uncheck Break apart messages larger than........ Click OK. Close OE. RandyL
  6. There is a difference between auto play and auto run. But that's not the issue. I know it's a long shot since this is an old Windows 95 computer and you only mention a CDROM but by any small chance is any version of Nero or Roxio installed? RandyL
  7. OK ylind; You say this problem started after downloading "some Palm programs". "for what it's worth" it was also about the same time google earth wouldn't install. The error activeX compatibility concerns me. On the link I provided did you look into the second one "Does not print to paper at all"? You could try several different things: Make sure you have all the Windows updates. Uninstall everything you downloaded and installed that might be conflicting. Go to Control Panel and remove your printer. Reinstall your printer. Go to HP support and look for updated drivers for your printer. Perform a System Restore to before this problem started. I won't go into malware problems because there is only an extremely remote chance that is an issue in this case. Of course I don't know what Palm programs or anything else you installed. Or what protection you have. In any case you could try some of the above and see if you have any luck. RandyL
  8. Hi ylind; Are you using the latest version of firefox 2.0.0.11 Also look at this firefox site. It might have the answer. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages RandyL
  9. Hi Mikey; I don't know if this will help but Nero has a clean tool for uninstalling. http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-cleantools.html RandyL
  10. Hi Omega; It's been a long time since I heard this one. If I remember right the last time I heard it was in relation to Direct-CD. Is this the driver? http://www.sharpusa.com/products/TypeSoftware/0,1086,30,00.html#
  11. Glad you found your way here. Happy computing.
  12. Hi Greydee; Welcome to the site.
  13. W3C today published an early draft of HTML 5 Tuesday. http://www.w3.org/ Back to the drawing board for me. Not only will some of the code change but it appears some knowledgeg of CSS will now be needed. New features or elements start here. http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/WD-html5-diff-20080122/#new-elements RandyL
  14. There are places here that will take my computer and monitor (and rejects I inherit) for $20. Too costly for me. I'm cheap. So I looked into donating them to charity. Schools and other entities wanted 1 gig processors, 512mb memory, XP and only flat screen monitors. I can't give anything else away. I guess charities can afford to be picky. On the other hand the working class people I deal with will use their computers until it's cheaper to buy a new one rather then fix it. By then you have to combine 2 or 3 to get one working one. Of course it's usually Windows 98 or ME by then. I was going to install Linux on one that I was sure the owner didn't want back because it was so weak. I just wanted to experiment with Linux. But alas. I knew it could handle Linux but the owner wanted to limp along with a really weak 98 system. I can't convince them to try it, not that I have. If it's not Windows to heck with it. Nothing they have software wise will run on it. And half the time it's the games they want. In the name of all that's holy, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY HIGH END GAMES GET AN XBOX OR SOMETHING. OK you can comment on my post now. Bonnie please go easy on me. I'm sensitive. lol RandyL
  15. Although some aspects of 32 bit IE may work others will not. They probably include it so you can browse with 32 bit add-ons. This is not to say that all functions will work. For instance I can run some programs not compatable with my 32 bit Vista in compatability mode but not every function works and some functions need an end around approach. I personally don't understand the need for the average home user to use Vista 64 bit. Most software is not able to run on it yet. Although it is more secure then say 16 bit. So for now you just might have to get used to 32 bit program problems. I know they included it but as I said above it's probably included so you can surf with IE add-ons that are not available for the 64 bit version yet. I feel your pain. In my personal opinion Microsoft has "broke" a lot of things in Vista not just the 64 bit problems. RandyL
  16. If both your work and home computers are slowing down after being left on for an extended period of time then I would suspect it might be related. Do you have Microsoft Office on both? Is the Office Findfast feature enabled? I'm just trying to figure what's causing the slow down problem. It could be many different things. RandyL
  17. Keep looking here turbo. The network people should be on later today. I don't have wireless or XP (I use vista now) so it's not my area. I'm sure they can help with this one. RandyL
  18. Hi Alison; Glad you found us. We do have some really great networking people. I look forward to reading your post in the networking forum. RandyL
  19. Hi Fuchsia; I never changed my page or swap file because I never needed to. As such I don't know as much as others here might. But did you check Services and Processes too. Since something "appears" to be slowing down both your home and work computer and you think it's a page file issue maybe it's an indexing issue such as Office Find Fast. How much memory do these two computers have by the way. RandyL
  20. POSTED BY Inimical. MOVED HERE. Hello all, my names Josh, how you all doing? I came across this site in a desporat search to find out why my PC keeps freezing like the antartic every hour or so, i htink i could most deffinatly time it exact. The Situation is, i'll be happily playing about on my pc searching thew web ect and then everything stops responding my mouse still moves, and if i keep clicking it freezes, if i don't keep clicking i get the 'blue screen of death' and if im lucky my mouse will move for hours and hours or so and nothing els will work. NOTE: I did have 2 80GB hard drives on my PC, the PC didn't come with the second installed, i inserted this my self, im not a PC whizz but it was okey for almost a year untill my BF2 started to do a weird graphic thing and turned yellow, after this i updated my drivers ect thinking it was them but it didn't seem to do anything. I uninstalled the game and just continued to do average things on the PC with no games installed, untill i brought BF2142, same thing happend, and then HL2 witch run as smooth as butter, i got bored of it so i uninstalled it and got the blue screen of death and this continued for ages so i had to scrub XP on my hard drive, format my other hard drive and reinstall XP. From that moment on my PC has been freezing and has had the blue screen of death on average 2 times a week, this is realy getting to me as you and many others can no doubt agree would lol and i have to reinstall XP about 2 times a week when i can be botherd to work on the pestered machine. Since today, i've removed the other hard drive thinking it was that, but to no avail it froze an hour after i reinstalled everything. SETUP: ASUS M2V Mother board 1gb Samsung DDR2 DIMM AM2 AMD Athlon 64 x2/Athlon 64/fx If you need to know anymore i will be happy to provide full system specs. Also if you can help in any way to stop this i would be verry greatfull and in your debt. Just so you know my ASUS PC Probe 2 that monitors all asus things is as follows. 21. Hi Judie; Kelly wanted you to boot into safe mode to determine if this was hardware or software related. Probably suspects startup programs or services that cause the long boot time. To summarize so far: It seems from a different post you did a non-destructive recovery. http://extremetech.support/forum/t1504-Undoing-System-Recovery This type of recovery might leave many programs installed and all running at startup.Compaq/HP have a lot of their own. In safe mode they would not load thus the faster boot time. This is a clue kelly wanted. It appears you ran spybot and adaware per jamey and his links above. I would also run a virus scan and SuperAntiSpyware scan http://www.superantispyware.com/ since I don't know what may have been left behind by the non-destructive recovery. So the boot time has gone from 15 minutes to 5. In safe mode it boots great. Make sure you follow through with malware issues. Then it's time to deal with startup items as also suggested above. RandyL
  22. Hi Bruv; Welcome to the forum. RandyL
  23. Hi shiner; Please wait for a reply. There are different possibilities for this. Now we know where the space is used. Most likely this is a legitimate application gone amok. Possibly a third party PCHEALTH Optimizer program. PCHEALTH.exe might be a virus Stand by; RandyL
  24. Hi prince; Did they detect and remove anything? If so do you remember what? Is there any change? RandyL
  25. Hi; I love your name. Really funny. Fans these days should be really quiet. Open up your PC and see if there is any dust or built up gunk inside. Especially the fans. RandyL
