  3. I suspect like your PSU doesnt have enough grunt to supply what your system demands of it, in particular what your graphics card needs. Equally it could also be a CPU overheating problem

  5. It is only legitimate if you have a valid and legit COA sticker. If you do not have a valid COA then you are effectively up the creek without a paddle
  6. As mentioned by Seth you are going to need a PS/2 keyboard tp proceed, because at this point your BIOS either doesnt support the use of a USB keyboard or that 'USB legacy support' is not enabled in the BIOS. 7. Please post the URL so we can check it out for ourselves, or if you are having trouble posting the URL just type in sitename.com, we know then
  8. If it is THIS bit of software, why pay £30 when you can do all the cleaning and 'tuning' up of your system for no cost at all? I do not recommend the application
  9. I notice that the Data E: partition still has 16GB of free space on it ;) What sort of stuff is taking up the rest of the space on E:? Why dont you use that for all your personal data etc, move it all over to the E drive. Any duplicate files sitting on the E drive? duplicate in that you have the same files on C and E I think that with some simple file management housekeeping you could resolve your issue quite satisfactory
  10. Is there a quick glimpse of a BSOD as it crashes before it restarts? If so then from Safe Mode right click My Computer, select Properties, click on Advanced tab, 3rd option down 'Startup and Recovery' click on the Settings button, under 'System failure' heading remove the tick from Automatically restart, OK and OK again. Boot to Windows normally Now if/when the PC crashes the BSOD will be displayed until you turn the PC off, post back here with the error message displayed, the error code will help identify what is causing the crashing
  11. Hi Andy, Try this, go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click on the MS Office entry, click on Change The Office installer window will pop up Select the Repair Office option let it do it's thing Let us know
  12. 1394 is your Firewire port/s, it has Nothing to do with any networking capabilities wired or wireless. What else is listed in the Network Connections? What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters?
  13. Hi Chris, A Dell you say...OK...as the PC boots press F12 and a boot device menu will pop up listing all available boot devices. Each device has a number next to it. At the bottom of the menu, enter the number of the device that is to be used for the current boot only. press enter key the PC will now boot from the CD in the CD drive, get ready to press any key when prompted to continue to boot from CD, if you miss it Windows will continue to load. Seeing as you have an installation CD that is older than the version of Windows you have installed (this is because your installed XP has a Service Pack installed on it and the CD installation files are pre the Service Pack) Now, here's the thing, you can make yourself a new installation CD that is bang up to date with the latest service pack already integrated into it. So when windows is installed there's no messing about getting a heap load of updates and the service pack, its all installed from the off. How to Slipstream Windows XP SP3 to create an integrated XP Setup CD with SP3 Do it, you will not regret it ;)
  14. I would suggest, recommend even, making a new XP installation CD with SP3 slipstreamed into it. And do you repair install with your newly created, bang up to date, XP-SP3 CD You will need: Original XP install CD full SP3 file - HERE Nlite Blank CD More info on the procedure HERE I have slipstreamed Service Packs into my XP install CDs ever since SP1a came out.
  15. I still enjoy playing PacMan and Space Invaders I'm old school :D
  16. Are the drives detected in the BIOS? Are the drives shown in Device Manager with an exclamation mark next to them? If the drives are shown in the BIOS there is NO reason why you cannot boot from your Windows CD and format your HDD. Our of curiosity, why do you want to format the drive?
  17. The issue with your PC not booting until after a few tries with the AC power applied can be a symptom of a dead or failing BIOS battery. How old is the PC and has the battery ever been changed? How to change BIOS battery When you start the PC are there any beeps, if so what sequence of beeps? Is there anything, anything at all, displayed on screen when you start PC? When it finally does start what exactly happens then, how far does it get? does ir get to the Windows Loading screen? Have you tried booting into 'Safe Mode' or 'Last Known Good Configuration'? these options are found on the Safe Mode boot menu, to get to it keep tapping the F8 key as the PC boots. Post back with as much information as you can give, the more you give us the more we are able to help you.
  18. Hmmmm.... I wonder where Ive seen this before
  19. Hi there, Could you please check that you are using DMA mode for your IDE controllers. Open up Device Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in to the Run box then click on OK Once in Device Manager click on the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers right click on a Primary IDE channel entry select Properties click on Advanced settings in the Transfer Mode box ensure DMA if available is selected and NOT PIO only after that click on OK to make the changes permanent. Do the same for the Secondary channel too.
  20. Go here Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP scroll down to Line 195 - right hand side for a fix Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar To use the VBS Files: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done. === If that works, then great, but do NOT forget to do the security scans for malware etc etc, see Seths post above ;)

  23. If you hold the RAM modules by the edges and avoid touching the contacts your pretty much as safe as houses. If you want to use an antistatic strap then clip the end to a radiator
  24. When you used said 'Registry Cleaners' did you select the option (if available) to make a back-up before you made any changes to the registry? If so restore the back-up.
