I’m trying to write a sheet that will return prices for custom sized panels that I manufacture. I have a basic price list in the form of a table with height running down the rows and width running along the columns. eg. B2=100mm, C2=200mm,D2=300mm (Width of panel) A3=100mm, A4=200mm, A5=300mm (Height of panel) I then have the price data entered into cells B3 to D5 In a manual paper based system if I want to get the price for a panel of say 162high x 224 wide I would look up the next size up in each dimension and use the value in the intersecting cell ie. Height is less than 200 Width is less than 300 so return the value at D4 I want to be able to enter the required size into say 2 adjacent cells (Height and Width) and have the price data returned to another adjacent cell. Ultimately this will be built into a much larger sheet to produce quotations and worksheets etc but I need the basic method for this first. Any ideas as I’ve been at this now for a good few weeks without success? Attached is my basic worksheet in a very simplified form as a starting point. Many thanks. I’m currently using Excel 2000. XP Machine continually rebooting
pilotbob replied to dwishon's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I had a similar issue with a laptop belonging to a mate, he asked me to upgrade to a larger hard drive after which everything was fine until his son visited some dubious web sites and contracted some form of Malware. After this it wouldn't run even in safe mode but would just keep re-booting as you describe. I took the hard drive out and ran hdat2 on it and something had destroyed the drive. A new drive sorted things until the same sites were visited again, guess what? yes another new drive has had to be fitted, and the offsprng has been forbidden to visit said sites again. Moral, there are some nasty infections out there still, so how's your spyware/malware/virus protection? -
Hi All, Just bought a USB to Serial converter cable for my XP pro laptop, installed the driver as per the CD supplied and plugged in the device. After a while the system appeared to have installed everything but then reported that a USB device had mulfuctioned and may not work properly. It didn't. If I look in Device Manager the device does not appear as a Port as it should do but is seen under USB devices as an unknown device, clicking properties for this reveals "no drivers are installed" yet the install did complete. I've tried downloading the latest driver from the Prolific web site and re-installing but still the result is the same. Any ideas??? Bob.:confused2: frustrated and needing my serial port desparately.

Screen Brightness Samsung Q1 ultra
pilotbob replied to pilotbob's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Many thanks, problem sorted! Bob. -
Hi All, I have a Samsung Q1 Ultra tablet PC running XP tablet SP3. Whwenever I disconect the charger/power supply the screen brightness reduces to minimum. I guess this is to save battery life. I want the screen to stay at whatever setting it was at prior to disconnecting from the mains. If I open the "Tablet & Pen Settings" applet from control panel the "screen brightness" options are "Greyed" out. I've tried looking in display properties and power options etc but can't get to adjust the settings. Any ideas why not and how to get at them. Many thanks in advance, Bob.

Hi All, Hope this is in the right place, My laptop, Athlon 64/3200, 80Gb HDD, 1Gb RAM, XP home SP3, will not boot anymore. Over the last few weeks it has been shutting down randomly, I assumed due to overheating. It has always responded to a restart after a few minutes without any further problems. Last night however it shutdown and will not now restart. When I press the "On" button the fans power up for about 7-8 seconds then shut off again. During this time there are no "beeps" or screen flashes at all, and there appears to be no attempt even to run the BIOS. Am I looking at a dead motherboard or maybe just the CPU.???? Any ideas??? Bob.

Can't install SP3, IE7 etc.
pilotbob replied to pilotbob's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Sorry I should have been more clear. As I understand it this is a new "Updates Installer" somewhat akin to "Windows Update Agent". Microsoft are only too aware of problems with KB 898461. It used to be a "Critical update" but is now a "Mandatory update" and without it further updates appear to be impossible. A web search for "Problems with KB898461 or simmilar, reveals the issue is widespread and although there are several so called guaranteed fixes out there, none have worked for me, and I've tried plenty.:( -

I deliberatly sought out a supplier who was still able to offer systems with XP pro as I am not prepared to go with Vista until it's well and truly proved. My experiance with it up to now is not a good one and I wouldn't consider using it at all until the bugs are all gone. As to the idea that there is anything wrong with the licences for the software, you can rest assured that both have separate keys and licences. Windows genuine advantage validation is quite happy. I'm just about to go for the re-install option but have learned today from my local supplier that Microsoft are on the verge of releasing a completely new update system for XP and Vista. Anyone know anything about this?. I might just wait to see if this solves the problem, it's clear that Microsoft are well aware that there is one. -

Not sure I want to go the clone route, I do however have detailed instructions on using the (undocumented) Windows Repair option from the installation disk. If I get hold of a suitable disk do you think this would be a sensible approach else I think I might as well re-install and start again:( Enjoy your break:) Bob. -

pilotbob replied to pilotbob's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Advanced Setup, thanks for this detailed reply, sounds like it could be a long job:( However before I got you message I decided to run a sfc /scannow. The process halted at least 6/7 times asking for the original WinXP/SP2 disk. I only have a "Restore System" disk from the supplier which it wont accept. So question, is it possible to copy the required system files from the other working machine? if so where from? Many thanks again, and will continue with the steps you outlineed anyway! Can't do any harm to be sure I've no infections. Bob. -

Can't install SP3, IE7 etc.
pilotbob replied to pilotbob's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
No restore point that would be any good I'm afraid, the first thing I did when I got the machines was to try to install SP3, one worked the other didn't. I wasn't too concerned at that stage as SP2 was already installed but now I can't get IE7 as well I'm a bit miffed. Trouble is this machine is the master of a network of 3 and I really don't want to start again from scratch.:( 2 days lost already. -

Well I've followed the instructions for registering the Wups2.dll file from this article and still no joy. Interestingly when I wiew the windows update history the update does not show as "Failed" (A red cross) but simply as a Grey Minus sign. -

Interesting one that!, I followed the instructions and firstly I don't have a C:\WUTEMP folder and secondly there is nothing in the "Windows Update" folder  And yes I do have system and hidden files viewable;)
