It looks like enough people have 'written their congresscritters' and some of them have listened.* The US House of Representatives refused to bring up a vote on* the recently Senate passed bit that gave immunity to the phone companies. At first, this seems silly, but: http://ms-os.com/Themes/AlmostGlass/images/icon-quote.gif The Article wrote: "There's no reason why Republicans and Democrats in the House cannot pass the Senate bill immediately," President Bush told reporters Wednesday. "The House's failure to pass the bipartisan Senate bill would jeopardize the security of our citizens." The House actually did pass its own legislation, the RESTORE Act, back in October, but it lacked the grant of amnesty for telecom companies, and contained a variety of oversight provisions the White House regards as excessively burdensome. So, at least some of us would like to shed some light on this practice. At a minimum, it needs to be investigated. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I have a Kodak V530, I've had the camera for a little over 2 years and never had any real issues with it. Today I bought a 4Gb SD Card, and my camera can't read it. Is there an upper memory limit on what cameras can read? Why wouldn't they clearly label that limit if so? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I have a 4 Gb Jump drive that I just bought, when I plugged it in, Vista asked me if I wanted to enable readyboost, and I did. How can I tell if it's actually being used? I think it's odd, that * 1) I haven't noticed any speed improvements * 2) When I insert an SD Card, Vista asks me if I want to use that*** card for ReadyBoost. Can anyone clarify for me? More... Hi, I am a UNIX programmer by profession.* I want to teach myself Windows programming (I have Windows XP Pro SP2 on my computer).* I am proficient in C and Java and somewhat less in C++.* I have two questions: 1) I notice there are many different GUI's used by programs that run on Windows.* For example, Firefox has what I call a "classic" type window appearance,*Microsoft Office 2007 has a completely different look to it, and some programs have an utterly*unique look to them.* What are the different visual component libraries used to create these different looks? 2) What language should I use to write my programs?* C# looks easy.* Thank you very much... So (not the first time it happened), but my soon-to-be-exwife left, and this time she decided that she needed something to sell for money....so she stole my AppleTV.... It was nice (Not the theft but the AppleTV) don't get me wrong...but complete unextendable/unmanagable, so yeah it could stream from my computer, and yeah it could connect to 5 other computers, but still, it wouldn't & couldn't stream from my 500GB external drive....but what if I wanted to add another one... So what are the specs on the Windows Media Home Server? Can I do 1080i? Can I upgrade the drives? Can I buy a few 1TB externals and keep shoving them on there? Is there a .iso for evaluation? Wanna steal my 11 in x 11 in device....fine, steal my whole network then... More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Hi, I just dowload Visual Studio 2008 Express ISO, and it installed fine. When I goto the Windows Form, I get something saying "The service Microsoft.VisualStudio.IInterop.IServiceContainer already exists in the current container. ParameterType : ServiceName" or something along those lines. I read about this in the connect forums, and they suggested installing the updates, however when I try to install Service Pack 110806_v6000-x32. It installs ok, and then restarts, and then it says. "The updates were not configured correctly, reverting changes." I understand you have to install the .NET 2.0 update first, followed by 3.0 and 3.5. Then it will work correctly, but if the 2.0 doesnt configure how are you supposed to continue. Any help from anyone at Microsoft would be great, as it would save me saving up 250 quid, for the Standard Pack at the end of Feb. Its either that or stick to Java, and although Java is good, learning EJB and JSP isnt! :p Many thanks Tom M (Age 29) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Look, this chap has just smashed the world record by 80 days (congratulations to Mark!). Of indisputable assist, have been things like aeroplanes, ferries et al, even down to his bike. You can pay a small fortune to get a very good bike nowadays. Why does it seem that it takes longer to realise a lot of software projects, when hardware and education are so much better? Mark has just trounced the record by 80 days. .NET does increase productivity but as a concomitance new technologies are being introduced, like WPF. We are still in the dark ages, as far as parallel computing is concerned, why is that? Is one being unnecessarily ungrateful and dismissive of the huge steps taken, unlike 'Oliver Twist' being greedy for the sake of being greedy? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I'm requesting some*text file*using IE7's XMLHTTPRequest. XMLHTTPRequest is interpreting the file as utf-8, but it's not in fact that, and it breaks because of that. The server doesn't return a charset directive, and I have no control at all over the server. How can I make XMLHTTPRequest interpret the response with a different encoding? Or failing that, how can I manually decode the responseBody byte array into a string? Using nothing but javascript. An alternative method to download the file would also work.*The script*has local machine privileges so it can do more than a regular browser script. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

I've installed Windows Server 2008 RTM on my dev machine recently (damn Sharepoint!), and couldn't help but notice that I don't get the ReadyBoost prompt for USB disks like in Vista. Also couldn't find anything in the control panel/server management, or by googling around. Does anyone know if it's possible to enable it, and if so how? I'd rather not try to replicate registry settings from a Vista machine unless I know it'll do me good. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
