Cant receive windows update,keep receiving error 20000008,I try other ways of get it taken care of,but haven't been successful. I appreciate any help you can give me on this.Thank You View this thread

Hello, i have recently brought a new computer, it is levono windows 7 profesional and i was installing new updates (about 60-70) and when i restart my computer, first it will say "configuring windows 15% done do not turn off computer" it would stay at 15% then it will say shutting down. Then when it switches back on it says "configuring windows 15% done please wait" and then it would say "Failure to configure windows reverting changes" and restart again. I kept on installing updates about 5 times and i even tried turning off my firewall because i thought it was that preventing any updates. After the 5th time switching on the computer, it showed something about performing a hard drive disk scan and it told me to reset the computer to manufacture settings and that i would lose al my data. So for the sake of getting the computer fixed, i did so and me thinking it would solve the problem, it kept happening again. Can someone please help me regaring this matter, i am getting very fustrated with the computer that i recently brought and i don't know if i can return it as i think it is pass the 7 days i can. The problem started when KB2804527 would not install after 3 tries.I decided to uninstall MSE and reinstall it to no avail. It keeps giving me error code OX80070645. I have since tried every Mr. Fix it listed and this too produces no help. Mr. fix It says microsoft antimalware can't be stopped. Im sure the unistall of MSE left problems behind but am at a loss where to go next The registry appears to not have any lefto0vers of MSE that I can find. I am running Vista and have had MSE running on this computer for many years. View this thread

I have XP w/ sp2 & sp3, NIS, running as administrator. No automatic updates even though the updates is turned on. When trying to update manually, it goes through the checking for validity then shows the express or custom options. I usually check the custom option which then checks for available updates. After awhile the list comes up showing NO updates available. The history shows only Powerpoint/Office updates having been done and four other updates that failed. My wife's computor works just fine, mine does not. I haven't had an update for windows, etc since last year. And this February 2013 update does not show at all. What can I do to turn this around? Just recently, windows update wont let me update any more. Whenever I click "check for updates" it scans then disconnects my internet and goes back to the "check for updates" window. No error codes or anything. This is the same way for Microsoft security essentials. I try to update it and it disconnects my internet and takes me to the same window. PLEASE HELP! My system's SSD suddenly died, so after restoring from an image taking a few months ago, I'm re-downloading lots of Windows Updates (50+ so far) All have downloaded and installed fine except one: Security Update for Windows 7 xor x64-based Systems (KB2799494). Eight times now, it has failed with error 80070490. I have tried the following to no avail: - Microsoft's Fix It Tool; - the System Update Readiness Tool (Checkur.exe); - booting from my installation DVD then choosing Repair (failed because it wanted to be started from within Windows); - repairing via my installation DVD from within Windows (failed because an update was preventing it from running); - running sfc / scannow (no errors found). Apart from this one update, the system is behaving fine! Can anyone please suggest what I should be doing next? With 2-3 levels of firewall proteciton between my computers and the internet, I'm not really concerned about hacking so don't care about this particular update - but the update seems to be half installed (ie the SHUTDOWN icon displays also the a exclamation mark / alert. hello, I have found questions asking about that they cant get windows defender to turn off. Well, I have a different problem. I just recently got a new acer laptop, and, it came with windows 8 64 bit, with mcafee, removed mcafee (not much of a fan of it) and, I cant boot up WD, I go to start, search "windows defender" and, it comes up with this: Windows Defender has been turned off, and, is not monitoring your computer if your using a different app to remove malicious software, check action center for its status. the funny thing is, is that, it says its running in action center (mcafee) but, I removed it, I even checked in add/remove programs AND ccleaner... I do not know what the heck is going on, Any help? View this thread

For the late 2 days I have been repeatedly asked to install "security update for windows vista (kb2799494)". I have installed it a total of 7 times so far. My history shows that it was sucessfully updated but it doesn't show in installed updates. I have ran Microsoft Security Essentails and says I do not have a virus. Have used Microsoft Fixit several times. Fixit showed it found an error with updates and fixed it but problem still continues. Not sure what I should try next. I have for months continued to get the repeat request to update .NET 4. After following various instructions/suggestions on this site; I gave up because NONE of these worked including uninstalling and reinstalling .NET 4. Then today Windows Update stated I had multiple updates so I installed all of them and of course it did the idiotic update for .NET 4 again but this time it failed with the error code 643. This time I followed the instructions on page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 I did Method 1 and fixed MSI.... and I did Method 2 Repair the .NET 4 framework. I am now at a complete loss and I am quite technically adept however this has me stumped. The error just keeps repeating, I also ran into an error when MS Security Essentials tried to update. But that one I am ignoring for now. This is an older PC that had Vista as the original OS then upgraded to 7 as soon as it was available. In the past when I would get this frustrated I would just wipe the drive and do a fresh install. However when upgrading to 7 years ago something happened to the recovery drive (HP machine and that drive was to work with the discs I created) so my recovery discs DO NOT work. Anyway any suggestions can not have in them doing fresh install of the Vista OS. Would doing another install of Windows 7 doing any good, I have the disc for that?? At this point I can do it, it will just be a nightmare having to reinstall online games such as World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV. sigh... On the 13/2/2013, I downloaded about 13 Windows Updates. Unfortunately, one of the updates seemed to be stuck. After about 10 minuits, I CANCELLED it! All the other downloads were successful! I cannot find a way to add this one back into the system. Your help would be most appreciated!! THANK YOU!!! View this thread

I restarted the computer several hours ago and the computer screen is showing new updates being added - do not turn off computer. However, it is stuck on installing update 3 or 15. Should I turn off computer and try starting again? View this thread

I bought laptop with Windows 8 and Mcafee pre-installed in it. I uninstalled Mcafee through Control Panel and then i removed Mcafee using their removal/cleanup tool and aslo deleted every file and folder of Mcafee. After doing all that i opened Windows Defender but it shoed the folloeing message: "Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer. If you're using another app to checkfor malicious or unwanted software, use Action Center to check that app's status." How should i turn it on? Please help me. View this thread

Trying to install Vista SP2 for a long time - months (very busy in work!). Tried everything - new Internet provider/lap top scubbed back to manufacturer's settings/got rid of Norton/downloaded everything else going from Microsoft in case they were unhappy with me that I hadn't (!) etc etc. Keep getting BSOD after stage 3 fails to go ahead during installation of Vista SP2 download. I've been searching this forum for a question like mine, but no luck, so here goes..... when I search for defender on the start screen, I get the defender icon, but when I click it, I get the message "Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer. If you're using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use Action Center to check that app's status." I bought this dell from dell directly, I did find on this forum where 3rd party vendors are allowed to disable defender to install their software - in this case mcafee. But I also saw one person say they uninstalled mcafee and they still cant get defender working. I have a dell inspiron 5720 laptop, running w8 64bit. the services tab shows all kinds of mcafee stuff running, but no mention of defender at all - I have nothing to even start or config. I tried to download defender, and in the middle of install, it interrupted and said that defender is already avail to "vista" and no need to download then aborted the install. Where do I go from here? I went to the dell support page, and after weaving my way down thru their support links, they sent me back to Microsoft for help. Thanks April View this thread
