Received notification of important update KB2804527 for Microsoft security Essentials together with other updates but this is the only one that fails to install. error cde 8004FF80 is reported but I am unable to find this code listed. I have check that IE is onstalled ok. Can anyone help or tell me how I can removed from Notification of Updates as it just keeps warning me of its failure. View this thread

Today when I went to check for updates to Windows 7 Home Edition I found that my entire history of updates had disappeared. WHY on earth would this have occurred? View this thread

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I recently downloaded free software off the internet. However before downloading I checked the sites security certificate and had a rating of 80/100. So thinking I could trust it I downloaded. Just a few minutes later I noticed that it was naff so uninstalled the program. About a few days later I realised that my web browser kept coming up in annoying pop-ups so I checked online and found that I had installed a worm. ( I think) and removed the adware from my computer. I then done a full scan on my AVG 2012 and it came up with nothing. After lots and lots of full scans later there was still nothing. But now my Windows Security Center has notified me that my AVG is turned off and my Windows Defender is problematic. I think I might have a virus but no matter how many scans I do it doesn't come up with anything. As with the Security Center, I try to turn it on but it won't let me. (I found this was common and as I know my AVG is on I selected the "I will monitor myself" button) The defender now occasionally comes up with annoying messages but when I click on it, it says my computer is protected. Now I have found that my AVG won't scan anymore. How do I solve this or get rid of a possible virus???? View this thread

Hi, Under XP whenever there is a Window Update the System will ask me weather to install it, but under Win 7 and Win 8, I find it I need to check for update by clicking on my Win 8 update shortcut to check for update and click to proceed. May I know how to reset the Win 8 update to enable it to function in the same way as in Win XP ? Thanks Low View this thread

I've tried numerous times to update Vista from SP1 to SP2 using the standalone installer. Each time I get the same error message before the installation even begins: "The specified module could not be found" (error code 0x8007007e). I've tried using the System Update Readiness Tool but that has not helped. I've disabled all antivirus software and even tried installing in Safe Mode, each time receiving the same error message. Also, SP2 does not show up in Windows Update, which is why I've been using the standalone installer. Can somebody please help me?? View this thread

Ever since downloading and installing the patch from the 12th my computer has been running very slow and very unresponsive. The download and install ran without any problems, restarted fine, and I recieved no error messages. However, since booting up the processes boot really slow, the internet connection icon is delayed by mintues, and I am unable to open virus programs or firefox or anything. I keep getting a FAILED UPDATE notice with the error code 80070490 regarding kb2779562. Ive installed the Mr Fix It, Ive tried the system readiness tool with the hot fix for another kb number but nothing is working. This has been going on for months now and Im getting fed up with Windows. Why is there no easy fix for this?! I have a Sony Vaio Laptop with a 64bit system. Windows 7 Home Premium was preinstalled and I DO NOT have a DVD. Please help! Ive tried multiple commands through DOS with 0 success as well. Ok, so i've got a possibly big problem and sorry i cant be too detailed as this happened at 2am and i had to get up at 5am so i just decided to wait, anyway, I ran a windows update and when my laptop restarted CHKDSK started running without warning and went though "Deleting corrupt attribute record" and deleted like 470000 somehting files(may have had one less digit, sorry i was really freaking out so im not positive), then it went and did something along the lines of "Recovering orphaned files," then "Inserting data attribute to files," and then some other numbers and words that i cant remember (sorry).anyway when I finally got back in i got a bunch of messages saying something like my nvidia card had failed and, figuring that one of the optional windows updates and gone wrong, i ran a system restore to just before the updates installed (though now that im not freaking out anymore I realize that may not have been a great idea) but the restore went without any problems and it started up normally (maybe a bit slow but that could be my imagination) i didn't have any error messages and there doesn't seem to be any files missing from my computer.However, now ive got 4 important updates that keep failing to update and im still not sure if i should be worried about the whole CHKDSK thingcan someone please tell me 1. What the heck happened, 2. if i need to do something about it(and what would need to do), 3. how to get the updates to download. View this thread

Yesterday when I turned off my computer I noticed that Windows was downloading 16 new important updates. I thought nothing of it of course, Windows sends out updates every now and then, so i let it finish and went on about my business. Today when I turned my computer on it said it was installing those updates, and again I thought nothing of it,and let it do what it needed.It installed those updates and then the screen said "Preparing To Configure Windows." That's been on my screen for about an hour now, and nothing seems to be happening.I know I shouldn't turn the computer off, but I'm about to turn it off and format my hard drive.I NEED HELP SOONThank You. My computer keeps trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack (Microsoft Automatic Update). It has failed everytime for SP2, SP3 and now SP4. About 2 hours ago Windows prompted me to allow an update and asked me to close all open programs and files which I did. When restarting my notebook an hour ago: - all desktop files were gone - the documents folder is empty - the pictures folder is empty - certain programs disappeared such as Google Chrome, Skype, etc... - when opening Windows office it acts like the programs have never been used, similar to a clean start - with a new download of Google Chrome and signing in.....no more bookmarks, these are all gone? Hello there, I just got a new PC with Windows 8 and can't figure out how to turn on my Windows Defender. When I type it into my start screen I'm told it is turned off. When I right click on it and click "run as administrator", I'm again told it is turned off.
