  5. I registered for the Windows 8 offer and was never notified when it was available. I met the requirements however it is not available now? How can I get the upgrade offer? Oh and it would have been easier to find a 10 leaf clover than to get a support email address to contact someone directly in relation to this... Can someone please advise how I can redeem this offer as I followed the preregistration but was never notified. Can Microsoft look up my details in the database and get back to me. View this thread

  8. After a clean reinstall of Windows 7 with SP1 on my Lenovo ThinkPad E420, Windows Update is failing to work. I ran Lenovo System Update to get my drivers, but upon trying Windows Update, it prompts me to "Install new Windows Update software." I select "Install now" but it brings me to error message 80072ee2. On top of this, some applications (notably Chrome) fail to download. I disabled Windows Firewall but that didn't fix it. What's wrong? View this thread
  9. I've been using MSE for a while now and it's been working great. It's caught things right away so they could be addressed. I have it set up to run a Quick Scan every day including the choice to check for the latest definitions beforehand (under the Settings Tab). Most always, if I go onto the Malware website and/or run the "Update" feature later in the day afterward I will see definitions I don't have yet. When this happens (like I said, frequently) I immediately get the Update and do a Quick Scan. Is there a reason this may be happening that I'm missing? Also, should I be concerned? My thought is that I should always have the latest definitions. I just don't know if it matters so much that it cannot wait until the next Update/Scan which will occur on the next day. Thx for any advice... View this thread

  14. I have tried everything except one that I do not know how to get to. I have run Microsoft Fix it, cleaners etc, and each time this stupid error code comes up and I have about had it. I uninstalled MSE in hopes that would work, and of course it didn't. When I go to re-install I get same error code. I need step by step in layman terms how to get to the HKey class root (registry) to clear this so I can get MSE to reinstall. Thank you View this thread

  17. Hello, I don't know if it's worthwhile or not (I could hide the update!)... Microsoft Update is reoffering KB2813170 after a successful update (it shows up in Add/Remove Programs). This is not the first reoffer in the past few months. I think it is the third! Both previous reoffers were corrected by using Microsoft Fix-it Center (I don't remember the KB update #). This time Microsoft Fix-it has had no effect. However, I have found an interesting behavior. If I run Fix-it, it claims: "Windows Update Components must be repaired" "One or more Windows Update Components are configured incorrectly" Fix-it then fixes these problems and reports its success. Fix-it also claims: "The location where Windows Update stores data locations has changed and must be repaired" I assume this is all OK. If I immediately rerun Fix-it, it again finds the same errors and displays the same output. Should Fix-it not find the same errors the second time around!!! If its worth it, I will try whatever solutions you may have. I'm growing tired of the reoffers! Thanks View this thread

  21. I have a retail shop supplied asus R501V laptop that came with standard Windows 8. I want the Hyper-V feature and discovered I need to have Win 8 Pro. How to I upgrade my laptop. I believe the key to Win 8 is apparently imbedded in the BIOS now. ThanksMervclel View this thread
  22. I have my work laptop set up to automatically download and install Microsoft Operating System changes. On Wednesday, April 24th, when I attempted to work on it, I found that had rebooted. When I tried to start Outlook, it prompted me to set up accounts. When I started Word and Excel, all the files I'd pinned to the "Recents" list were gone. All of my custom settings, Normal.doc, everything associated with all of my office products were gone! Even Internet Explorer acted as if it was a first time use. Today, I finally had time to look into this. I found that it had installed KB284019 at 3:00am (when it was scheduled to check for updates). FORTUNATELY, there was a system restore point so today I restored it back to the point prior to the installation of this "fix". I am not sure what to do now because my fear is that installing this update will once again wipe out my machine! Suggestions? View this thread
