  1. I run a MacBook Pro with Parallels on it running Windows XP.I keep getting "updates are ready for your computer". Updates needed are "KB9821168 & KB982524" the following is what I get.....I have even gone to the Microsoft Update webpage....Click "Install Updates" I get.... Initializing installation....done! Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168) (update 1 of 2)... done! Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524) (update 2 of 2)... FAILEDThe following updates were not installed: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524)I close the "installing updates" window.. When I "turn off computer to install important updates" I get.... Saving Settings Do not shut off computer installing updates 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3.... Windows is shutting down.....Then it shuts down.Turn it back on and check the "add/remove files" window and the updates are not there.Again open the Microsoft Updates webpage and again get the "updates are ready for your computer" windows found 2 updates to install..I was getting the same issues with KB2756918, KB2656407 & KB2604110 but they have been installed and verified in the "add/remove files" window. So on the Microsoft Update page I have checked the box...."don't show this update again".Can I simply check the box..."don't show this update again"? Don't know if these are really needed as this is not a Windows Server?Any help would be greatly appreciated.ThanksDan View this thread

  7. Original Title : I need some advice... I have been trying to get my laptop up and running for a few days...had to do a restore from my DVDs. HP dv7-1245...sets up fine. I begin updating via windows update, and after several series of updates, restarts, it always seems to fail to start windows on the 5th or 6th round of updates. It runs Vista, so, there are hundreds of updates, as you can imagine. I am currently on my on my 4th restore since Saturday. I went to the Microsoft site, and went ahead and installed Service Pack 2 this time, and am running updates from that point. I also updated to IE 9. I am using it now to post this. Any additional tips or issues I should address during this time? Are there any updates I should avoid? I kept all the HP items this time as well...wasn't sure if deleting those caused the issue. I just want to be able to use it without fear of not being able to boot up if I shut it down. I plan on installing my Office 2007 suite as well...haven't even got that far yet...patience is running out, and it has plenty of hardware capabilities, so I don't want to buy a new one. 8. Received a 32 bit vista computer with numerous trojans, spyware and hijackers, including trojan downloader vbs. Removed all of these, and the next time I visited the internet, they started coming back. The only thing I left on her computer that I don't have on this one was the oovoo toolbar, and that made me suspect that it might be a portal. Installed oovoo toolbar on this computer, and immediately malware started coming in. Uninstalled the toolbar and the malware that came in because of it, and now I'm in good shape again. Somebody should verify this and post a warning conspicuously on their homepage. This toolbar is really BAD NEWS. View this thread

  11. I am not sure if its just windows 8 or Samsung, but seems like when ever a update- a actual reset the computer to update happens, problems then follow! On the 27th, it updated as it turned off. Next day when I turned it on, it wouldn't let me in right off- like when I first clicked (so I could type my password and log in) it did acted like it was gonna pull it up but then it just shut back down- so it was more like a quick flash of black for about 5 tries. Then it let me log in, but once I logged in I noticed other issues, some programs, it just wouldn't open them. And if I wanted those programs to get opened I had to log out, turn off, wait a few minutes, turn back on then try again. Also on my browser (Chrome), I've noticed a "Cache Error" coming up more often, leaving me to refresh several times before it loads correctly. And Facebook games, and other games I would normally play I have to refresh several times before it works normally. (I mention this issue cause I tried from my a relatives computer and it worked fine).I'm not sure what's going on here- like would turning back on "Fast Startup" help? (had turned it off cause when that update initially happened when I turned off it just turned back on, and that cured it). View this thread

  13. Hi, I have been having the problem described in the following link(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979155/en-us) for some time, but I can't install the proposed fix. When I try to execute it I get the message "The update is not applicable to your computer", and nothing else to go on. Nothing on internet talking about this error message and this specific KB. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits. All the updates and service packs available until now (04/29/13) are installed. The file downloaded was for the x64 Windows version (Windows6.1-KB979155-x64). Any idea what the problem might be? Thank you... View this thread

  22. Hi, I am running 64-bit Windows 7 and I wanted Microsoft Security Essentials so I Googled "Microsoft Security Essentials for windows 7 64-bit". The first link was to the official download at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download so I clicked on it and downloaded it, but when I tried to install it a message popped up telling me that I couldn't install it due to my computer having a 64-bit operating system and the version of microsoft security essentials being a 32-bit version. After that I tried looking around on the microsoft forums for a link to the 64-bit version and couldn't find any. Could someone please help me find the download link? View this thread

  25. I need help in resolving an issue. I keep getting error code 800B0100 when trying to install two updates from Windows Update. I downloaded and then used Microsoft System Update Readiness Tool and the Troubleshooter, problems are detected and "fixed" but the two updates continue not to be installed. I repeat the process with same "fixes" and the same outcomes. I am using Windows 7, 64 bit on a Dell computer. The two updates are: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2789645) Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2808735) Thank you for your help.
