  1. (Queenhunter;1109878) Hello. My disk is very fragmented. I have removed all unused programs, Disk cleanup, I have 24% free disk space. Dell Dimension 3000-Win XP- Problem- Disk Defragment will only defrag 5-12% and then conks out. I keep repeating hoping it will have a accumulative affect. but it does not. I have never incurred this before. It will not complete the defrag process. Always states defrag is done . but it is not. Any help, suggestions, fixes would be greatly appreciated Run s good spyware scanner and your virus scan. Check if there are any programs that are interrupting the defrag. I also suggest you try Diskeeper09, its very good with low free space and severe fragmentation.
  2. Same here, i too miss the GUI of the XP defragmenter. I now switched to Diskeeper. Works great in automatic mode and has a wonderful GUI.
  3. I had a similar problem with one of the free defrag programs I was using. I uninstalled it without any issues thankfully and since then have been on Diskeeper. Its never had a single issue so far and the defrag is always thorough and fast. I am now running it on automatic mode without any problems. (Its paid ofcourse but I have no regrets.)
  4. Re: disk defragmenter I thought the same and decided to forget about it for a long time until i analyzed one day and found the report saying that the drive was fragmented. Took me by surprise. The PC was running much slower and programs took longer to open. Two myths got cleared for me, Windows fragments all drives eventually, its just a matter of time before this problem attacks different drives. I guess it is inevitable. Second, a badly fragmented drive does affect performance, perhaps the degree of degradation may vary for each and those who are not used to a lightning fast system might not notice the difference but i think if your drives get full and fragmented, problems arising may be more than just sluggishness.
