New hardware found wizard "help"!
Casswilf replied to Casswilf's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi again, Okay I unplugged everything and rebooted. I still got the wizard help pop up. I went to Device Manager and chose update driver for every '?' USB unknown item. I then rebooted again before plugging anything at all back in and guess what... wizard help pop up came back and i have another set of 5 '?' USB items in device manager! Good one huh?! -
New hardware found wizard "help"!

aha. Thanks Kelly. Okay I have a big fat yellow question mark called Other Devices and within that 5 other yellow question mark symbols...all saying unknown device... I guess I just try and delete all of these?! Thanks -
Hi gang :-) Can anyone assist please before I dismantle my pc?! EVERY time I fire up my pc (an HP Compaq with XP) I get the oh so helpful new hardware found wizard help box...only I haven't installed any new hardware.. I either click through "cancel" until the pop up disappears or oblige it by going through the motions of "next" until I get the same repsonse of a message saying it hasn't been possible to successfully install my new hardware, not that I HAVE been trying to! Why does the wretched PC keep insisting I have new hardware and then saying it can't do anything about it anyway? Thanks in advance! Casswilf

Thanks both :-) Great timing as I need to step away for lunch, I have gone through those settings and will see how it works. best regards Tami

Hi folks, Due to all the snow recently and my living a long way from the office my boss has set me up through "Log me in" to see my pc in the office remotely from home. My query is that if I don't use my screen very often I get timed out and have to notify someone who is physically in the office to jump up and press "alt, control, delete" to unlock my screen! Is there any way this can be set for a longer period so that just in case there is no-one in the office to do this for me I can still work okay? The pc at work is an Intel Core 32 bit on a Windows Vista Business.... Thanks in advance CassWilf

Hi Nev, Yeh I like simple too :) which is lucky being me... I've tried a new lead and the story is the same... BUT I did put you wrong earlier (sorry was taking the info 2nd hand!) apparently the new hardware CAN be detected and what happens is a helpful wizard pop up appears and tells us to install the software, ok fine, but after inserting the disc and clicking on the iTunes icon it then said it couldn't open as it has been created from a newer version... most confusing... Thank you

Hi Folks, 1st of all is it all possible to ever be able to transfer your iPod collection to your PC at all? Secondly since getting my new pc (Windows xp) I have never reinstalled my iTunes software - so thought I'd do this today... all okay there but then I connected the iPod and the pc will just not recognise that I have added any new hardware AT ALL! I have tried all the USB ports I have - to no avail.... any ideas? Thanks in advance Casswilf :)

Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications
Casswilf replied to Casswilf's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi - yes I can - F8 - safe mode etc - all fine (that's how I managed to go to system restore) -
Hi Folks, I need your help once again. I have a relatively new pc - Windows XP This week I got a pop up telling me some updates needed to take place and my system would re-start in x minutes.... upon re-starting I then got another pop up declaring it was "Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications" and that I had to click next or cancel..... whatever I try the systems closes down and restarts itself.. I have no chance to do anything option wise the pc just closes, restarts, closes, restarts,,, I have been doing system restores to get around the problem but that's not ideal is it... How can I resolve this one - any ideas? Thanks Casswilf

Right - that seems to have all gone well (famous last words eh) Can I just ask to be doubly sure on something? If I use Open office and want to save a file so I can send it on to someone who doesn't use it, how do I do this properly? Just pop.doc or.xls at the end and then they can open ok? Thanks
-
Sorry - my last mail crossed over - I shall go through the uninstall/reboot process now - thanks guys!
-
Thank you - almost there - but when I do that I get a pop up asking me to filter the selection from a large list...no matter which Open Office one I choose I get another pop up saying "general error"

Thanks for your help :) I downloaded Open Office yesterday as I used that before I had this new machine and like it...however nothing I open or create seems to go through OO, I'm always taken to this trial of 2007 and bypass it until I can open the docs/create them... how can I avoid all this coming up and get stuck back into lovely Open Office?! I don't like all this change! Bring back the carrier pigeon :-) Thanks
-
a-ha - of course, the free trial. What an idiot - thanks. Sooo in my little collection of CD's I have one saying "MS windows XP Pro service pack 2" If I download that then will I be able to create/open docs and spreadsheets without all this hassle do you think?! Thank you

okay - I found the product key - on a sticker on the side of the tower - but the pop up says it's incorrect which is my 1st puzzler, plus I wanted to know why I need to enter this number every single time I open up MS word/excel or indeed open up an old doc I created pre this computer... seems a bit odd I need to go through this process each time? The computer just came this way - XP pro all set to go with discs for business vista.... is that not how it should be? I went with one of the choices provided by a helpful member on a previous thread here. I've never had a new one before so not sure about what comes as standard or anything... sighhh Thanks

It's MS 2007 and it's shop bought - not been tampered with! It's an HP DX2400 Business Desktop, Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD Supermulti Lightscribe, Office Ready (Trial), Vista Business Downgraded To XP Pro :-)

oops sorry - it is the MS office product key... every time I want to open MS word or excel or call up an old doc in word or excel I get the same prompt .. the PC seems to have all the MS products installed...

Hello, I am just about to dismantle my brand new PC that arrived this morning as I am losing patience! Before I take that drastic action and have laid down the hammer momentarily...can anyone help? As I say it's all new and I am trying to crack on with some work and open some old docs in word and excel...only to get a pop up EVERY time asking me for a product key... found this the first time on a sticker on the side of the tower...but upon entering it the message said it was incorrect - have checked a squillion times now and I have entered exactly what the sticker is telling me! Even though it said the key was wrong it did open the docs I wanted, let me make changes and so on...but every single time I am having to go through this product key request... whyyyyy! Thank you!! Casswilf

Hi folks, I'm needing to buy a new desktop (urgently!) and would like to know if anyone has any great websites I could use - speedy delivery is crucial. I also don't know what make to get! I need my PC for home as I am employed to work from home so want something a bit better than the average home PC.. I've heard terrible things about vista (my current/now old pc is XP) but an IT bod in my company has recommended a Pentium with Business Vista....whadya reckon? Thanks!

Thanks both And yes - things seem to work fine in Internet Explorer - thank you - guess the easy answer here is simply use that and forget Firefox then?!
