Hi KenB. Success! I managed to copy and paste the image in 'irfanview' and saved it to 'openoffice'. Here is the much cropped photo. Jim
-
Hi again KenB. I thought 'print screen' might work but nope! It doesn't save that direct to 'openoffice' or via 'irfanview'. It is a black splat in the launch bar about 25mm long and 7mm high. Hardly noticable really. If it is just due to the coffee incident then I can live with it as I only noticed it some time later. I don't game or any thing but I do need to sort out the saving of images as that is important to me. Jim.

Hello KenB. Thanks for answering this. I hope that you are well what with all this virus about. I think the coffee incident was on Tuesday evening and I didn't notice the screen until Thursday evening (I think). I am unsure of the photo.......er.......I'll try......... I took a photo and saving the image to PC (W7 OS) is not working as it use to do. It will not 'copy' the image for some reason like it use to do. I've just thought of another way. I'll try that in a minute. Jim.

My monitor is about as old as this desk-top, approximately 5/6 years old. It has a mark like the burned edge of a page of paper. It is not overly large, about 1" long (25.4mm for metre chaps/chapesses) and a 1/4" high along the bottom edge of the screen. It is close to where I had an altercation with a mug of coffee earlier this week. It's not in the software (lunchbox) as it prints out the screen perfectly. I can live with it as it is but will it get worse? I have tried restore but it seens it is beyond that. A BTW is I get an 0x80070005 error when I tried restore - malware bytes indicated it was off as well. Jim
-
It has been some time since when I last was here. I made sure I had no repeat adverts. I have deleted adbocker and put in Ublock origen. Malware bytes is there some where which I thought I may need now that protection of W7 is withdrawn. I have not had any adds come up again so perhaps that has cured it :). A BTW is that I use duckduckgo for a search engine and Brave as a browser. Both of those do not garner your personal details - well they say they don't. Jim

Thanks KenB. It seems ok since I ran restore :). Another problem has popped up though, an advert for apple iphone ( have not watched it through to check its origens) insists on opening whenever I go to youtube. It is always there. Nothing I do stops it.......Grrrrrr......Addblock has no effect on it :(. Jim

Setting up a brave browser and a duckduckgo search engine

I think the fact that DDG is unobtainabe at the moment is something to do with it :). Sorry about that. Jim. -
Setting up a brave browser and a duckduckgo search engine

Thanks Rustys and KenB for coming back to my post. I usually go to their home site. That way I avoid the add-on's. Its as if W10 avoids allowing Brave or DuckDuckGo being downloaded. I have chosen download as the folder to accept programs off the 'net but obviously I am not down-loading. I must be doing something wrong. Jim. -
Thanks Starbuck. I'll leave it for now as I am quite happy with solitaire on this W7 machine. Jim.
-
Thank you both. I have now turned on the restore facility. None of my actions have turned on the icons on this forum on this post. I am using the desk-top that has W7. It may seem desirable to have a bloat free OS but I assume that includes solitaire which is my only form of gaming. I'll leave that for the moment. Your magazine looks useful, how do I get that? Jim.

KenB said [ remind me to explain how to turn Restore Points on ] I am thinking that it might be beneficial to restore my W10 lap top. It should resolve a few issues caused by me when I got it first. If I google the term I get taken to a dictionary that explains the word :). Jim

I thought I'd answered this. I must have pressed the wrong buttons - again. I said then that I'd followed the video (I didn't necessarily get the exact same pages/clickable links), but the outcome was that I had down loaded Irfanview and I could open it from the icon on the lap top and its desk top in W10. That makes the original query solved :). Thanks KenB. Jim.

Hi KenB and glad I am not tasking you too much. No, I wasn't envisioning the desktop icons it was the icons at the top of this post on the W10 forum. I remembered the punctuation marks for the smilee but that is the only one. Unless you mean that they return when we get the desktop icons back. Jim.

Thanks KenB. I hope I'm not tasking you too much :) Why doesn't the emojos at the top of the page work for this W7 desktop? I remembered the punctuation marks for the smilee. I am rather behind though when it comes to this modern way of thinking. I am following you on this W7 desktop so I can turn a page at a time so to speak. I nearly forgot [ remind me to explain how to turn Restore Points on ] Jim.

Thanks for all that KenB. That gave me a lot to check to be sure. There was no restore point. It was grayed out, as was the next button. I assume because it is relatively new and has no earlier system, but I'm sure it has had an update which it should have as a restore point. Yes I had realized that a mains lead was safer as I had no idea how long the restore process would take. Also restoring to its original self meant I would have to go through the earlier post about de-activating the adds again. Jim.

Hello again KenB and thanks again for coming back once more. I had no joy with the control panel nor with Revo uninstaller. My guess is that it is in there somewhere - or does it remember stuff? Incidentally i'd like to change to duckduck go as my search engine but it always reverted to bing and edge. No surprises as I understand both are owned by MS. What I don't understand is that it appears bi-lingual and has what looks like Hebrew with it. Jim

Thank you for answering my call KenB. I have deleted the browser Brave but I am unable to locate duckduckgo. It only shows when I type its name in the search place at the BLHC. It is not in control panel. When I drag the logo (or what ever it's called) onto the desktop it is still unresponsive to the mouse etc. Jim

I want to use the Brave browser along with the duckduckgo search engine, but I am unable to do this. Also thumbnails ( or logos (what ever they are called)) do not work when put on the desktop. Jim.
