  1. Hi Maddie106, Like yourself I run XP Professional. I'm unable to advise you on you main problem, but I can advise on printing anything that you can see on your screen. As has already been suggested you have the option of using the PrtScn button. I'll just add a point to that information. 1. When you press the PrtScn button the contents of your screen are copied to the windows clipboard. 2. When you press Alt + PrtScn only the active window will be copied to the clipboard. (This is handy when resizing a window is not an option. Example: System configuration utility. 3. Just has been suggested...Open up Microsoft Word or Paint...Then Press Ctrl + V to paste the clipboard contents into your choosen program. Note: When you press the PrtScn button it will seem like nothing has happened...It's only after the paste command that you will see the result.
  2. Hi Nev... I've just recently joined this site, so have spent a fair bit of time reading existing threads with a view to expanding my some what limited knowledge of how to fix computers. I've been helping out friends and family for a few years now...It's more a hobby for me than work. When I came across your flow chart it made me laugh out loud!!....I can't speak for other folk, but the chart demonstrates the method I use for over 90% of the time. Thanks for posting.... PS. Please don't tell my brother and sister...as at the moment they just think I'm very clever...Lol Frank.
  3. Hi Cass... I don't have a Vista computer myself...but from what I can see you could try this:..... On your work computer.... 1. Click Start > Control Panel (Start = The flag key) 2. Select Power Options 3. Under Select a power plan you should see three different options. Balanced (recommended) Power saver And an option to Show additional plans ( Click the arrow on the right) Select each option in turn and click Change plan settings Now you have two choices: On battery and/or Plugged in. Assuming your work computer is a desktop pc...Choose Plugged in 4. Click the small arrow to the right and select Never from the menu. Repeat this wherever you have the option to Change plan settings. Hope this helps out.
  4. Hi Heman I have two suggestions for you. 1. Click start...Right click My Computer 2. Click Properties and select the Advanced tab. 3. Under Startup and recovery....Click Settings. 4. Uncheck (Remove the tick) Automatically Restart....Click OK. 5. Now reboot your computer to see if this has cured your problem. Suggestion Two Run System Restore. Have you recently installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0. This is known to create problems for xp users. Either uninstall the program or get the updated driver from the Roxio web site. Hope this helps out.
  5. Hi Topper I'm not too sure what your problem could be, but it could be an over heating problem. Can you hear the fans working when the computer is on? Is there a build up of dust and cobwebs that could be obstructing the air flow inside your tower. Unplug from the power supply and take a look inside. If you find lots of dust, etc, take a small soft paintbrush and very carefully and gently agitate the dust and cobwebs...I repeat..Gently! When you have done this hover up the dust, etc. Note: Do not touch any component parts with the hover nozzle. May seem a little odd doing this...but it does work...Be gentle, take your time. Also...if your computer has a low specification it could be that the CPU is having to work harder than it was designed to. What would make this worse is not doing regular housework on your PC. This would also make the computer run slower. Housework could include running the Disk Defragmenter once every month or six weeks...Cleaning out the temporary internet files on a regular basis...deleting cookies, and so on. There is a free program call ccleaner that will help you do some of these chores. You can download it from here...Download CCleaner 2.27.1070 - FileHippo.com. Many people use ccleaner, and I wouldn't be without it. Maybe some of the more experienced members here can tell you more about it. Another reason for slow running is too many unnecessary programs starting up at boot. Be careful when disabling start up programs. I would suggest taking advice on which one's are needed and which one's are not. A couple more things that you can do yourself are reseating your memory sticks, and resetting the CMOS. Both of these things have been known to cure the problems you have. To reset the CMOS remove the small flat battery from the mother board for a couple of minutes and then replace it. The battery will look like a small silver coin and would normally be held in position by a small clip. Note: Either wear a wrist band when working inside your case, or touch the metal casing to get rid of static electricity in your body before touching anything. These are all the things I would try if I had similar problems...Hope this helps out.
  6. Hi Wiggy...Probably unlikely, but do you have a switch on your netbook to turn the wireless on/off. Have you accidently turned wireless off..
  7. Hello everyone I'm new here and have been helping out friends and family members with their computer problems for the last three or four years. Computers are only a hobby for me at this time, but I have gained a certain amount of knowledge through trial and error. I am here both to try and help out when I can, and to find solutions to any problems I may encounter myself. Many thanks to all the admins who make a site like this a pleasure to use..:)
