  1. Connect the Edimax to your router and run the command again, and post the results please.
  2. Do you have the latest driver from the Belkin website, rather than using the install CD that came with it?
  3. Find out exactly what spec machine you have - a quick call to Dell tech support will do it. We need to know what spec panel you should have.
  4. Following on from Vr5fx, I guess I would work out the value of the machine before committing to a new screen. Also, we need to be sure of the screen type before pointing you in the right direction. Give Dell a call, find out which resolution screen is fitted.
  5. If you are still having problems after your driver update, I'd like you to check a couple of things. First is to plug in the Edimax adapter, and then open a command prompt and type this netsh wlan show interfaces Press Enter and post the output please. The other check is to take off a small panel underneath your laptop and have a look if the wireless card has the aerial connected. I haven't seen your laptop model underneath, there should be a small panel with one or two screws attaching it, remove it, and you will see a small card, about the size of a large stamp. There should be one cable connected to it, whcih is the aerial.
  6. His first post... So we know an adapter is installed correctly, I assumed it is the built in adapter, can you confirm? From BeeCeeBee's post Not yet. The router wireless channel setup needs confirming as I asked previously. Also, it would be good to confirm if the built in card can see and connect to another wireless network.
  7. Start it in Safe Mode. The most recent picture shows the screen does actually work in a basic resolution. Safe Mode is a standard VGA mode, and it will not load the video driver, but will use standard Windows video driver.
  8. Did you uninstall the video drivers for your onboard video before installing the new card and drivers? If not, you should uninstall the old video drivers whilst using the onboard video, then shutdown. Fit the new card, restart, install drivers, shutdown and retsart again.
  9. Hi, If I understand you correctly, using your built wireless adapter you cannot see any wireless networks, using an Edimax USB adapter you can see your network. So I'll follow that problem along Is your router also Edimax? I am wondering if your wireless channel set in your router is above 11. Some adapters can only see to channel 11, some to channel 13. Log in to your router and have a look. If you need help logging in, post your router make/model.
  10. Looking at your recent pics, I wouldn't like to say you have a bad panel. Hook it up to the TV again so you can see what you are doing and wind down the resolution on your laptop sreen settings if you can. Set it 1024 x 768 or similar , and also try 1280 x 1024 or similar. Try your screen like that. The picture of the LCD panel that you have just posted doesn't say 'broken' it looks more like the problems you get when a monitor is driven at the wrong resolution or refresh rate. There are plenty of panels for your machine on ebay, if you want a link to one let me know.
  11. The Dell service tag was no use, it does not show the original config, so one way is to call Dell tech support. Another would be to reconnect the lcd, and start the laptop up on an external monitor, one that can do the full HD resolution, and have a look at the highest resolution settings.
  12. The screen you have is the correct one for the Dell 1750, with one caveat. There is a full HD screen available as well (I have just found out), they call it HD++, yours is HD+. So there is a small chance of a mix up, do you know which model yours is? If you could remember back to ever setting your screen resolution, the HD++ will give you 1920 x1080 max resolution, the HD+ will give you 1600 x 900 maximum.
  13. What do you call data? Do you mean downloads, films, pics etc or installed programs?
  14. Just one last thing Ken before we close it... I wondered about this myself, but wasn't sure I ought to broach it on the forum. My advice is that if you think there is a problem, suggest she finds someone to reinstall Windows on her machine and then password protect it.
  15. And there lies the problem. Just a little more about Logmein, any computer once setup can be accessed, the remote computer is notified that a admin user is logging on and can prevent that happening. In my opinion, there is no way a legit forum will tell you how to discretely log on to another persons machine - why would any forum do that?
  16. Whilst you have Task Manager open, have a look at which tasks are running high CPU load. How much memory did you upgrade to?
  17. Going back to your first post Any messing about with Admin accounts, that is the REAL administrator of any PC could render it useless. The fact that you have said you don't understand means to me that you ought not be doing it. My advice is to learn about what admin accounts are for on the various versions of Windows, and make sure you can always get out of any mess you get yourself in, because you will :). Then take a step forward using the many guides there are out there to tinker with your systems. For remote access tasks, and that could include virus removal, running in Safe Mode, or just because you can, have a look at Logmein and Teamviewer.
  18. Hi, So it does appear that the repair has caused the issue. Can you post the part number of the panel you have, perhaps its manufacturer and any other numbers worth mentioning and I'll look it for you. Also, can you post the Dell Service Tag of your machine, its worth a look at the spec on the Dell site to cross reference.
  19. Do you mean that it didn't ever work correctly after screen replacement? It should be 17.3 WXGA 1600 x 900 LED backlit panel. I can't find the part number, the best way is to look at the panel that was removed. If not available, you may have to remove the panel you have and check it is the correct part. Before going any further, have you plugged a monitor in to your laptop to find out if it just a screen fault.
  20. Hi, You will struggle to get one, I'll lay money on the fact that they are not made anymore. The best you can hope for is finding one on ebay in a faulty unit. Edit: Actually I have just found one here http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/laptopparts/TOSHIBA-PORTEGE-R500-12.1-LED-LAPTOP-SCREEN_2586.asp
  21. Chipset = SIS 672 & 968 Video - SIS Mirage 3 Go here http://w3.sis.com/download/ Choose your operating system, choose IGP graphics drivers, and then SIS66x/SIS76x/SIS67x Click Go, Next page, choose a download location, and download the latest version V3.93 Hopefully that will work
  22. Can we gather the IP information together, so we can see exactly what we have? It is worth connecting to the router with a cable as well as wireless if you can. Open a command prompt and go through the following.. ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew and lastly ipconfig /all >Desktop\Ipconfig.txt That will clear any dns junk out, and renew your ip. Please post any error message you receive - you shouldn't receive any. The last command will place a text file on your desktop containing all of the current ip information, please post it for us to have a look at. Also, if you can please run the last command whilst connected to wireless, and then connected with an ethernet cable. Post both.
  23. Not wanting to be negative, but I'd be surprised if we could sort this out on a forum. Your ex IT guy may have set the DNS manually per machine, or he may not. The 3 routers may have different DNS servers set up, they may not, if they are there may be an agreement between your IT guy and the ISP. Also, there may be a fault elsewhere. Are you able to log in to the routers, including the faulty one?
  24. From the Ebuyer website...max speed of your flash drive.... 6.5 MB/s write speed That is the maximum, and would probably be expected on an ideal system with a freshly formatted flash drive. Whereas this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&catId=58058&item=280957189519&clk_rvr_id=384339127606&afsrc=1#ht_1392wt_1141 has a 25MB/s write speed. It is down the the flash drive hardware spec.
  25. Also, did you remove all of the onboard sound drivers before fitting the card? If not, I would recommend uninstalling your new card and software, reboot, uninstall the software and onboard sound from device manager, then make sure it is disabled in the BIOS, and finally install the new card and drivers.
