I just bought the XP Pro X64 software and I am trying to install it on my PC. I am switching from XP home to X64 so I know that I will have to format my old drive and install a fresh copy of the X64. When I try to boot from the CD I get a weird error message. It says "File \AMD64\NTKRNLMP.EXE COULD NOT BE LOADED The Error code is 7" I have a qx6600 processor. What should I do ? Did they make a version for AMD and one for Intell ?

hey ppl,hope every1 had a gr8 xmas. i got a small problem with left 4dead,installation went fine,the game works perfectly even on high settings but now every time i try to run the game it crashes. the game is throu steam so i load up steam then i luanch the game,the game loads i get to the main menu and everything,the game crashes on the loading screen :(,but no error messege,i have to get task manager up to find that its not responding. can some1 let you know how to fix this,i just got my pc fixed and it dont work yet again :mad: lol thank you JaZz

after installing sp3 i have been having problems with my pc being really slow. i want to uninstall and see if thth is the problem but when i try and uninstall i get the message 'the system cannot find the file specified'. please help

Goku, in another thread, was trying to help me with my non-functioning Scanner&Camera Wizard. He set me up with the "fix camera wizard". I ran that and still could not find the wizard. I'm starting this new thread because the other had become populated with too many issues. I then started wondering if it's still even on my computer. I looked in all programs, in ad and remove programs, and did a search for it. Is there anywhere else I need to look? The reason I'm wondering if it's gone is that when I had the computer formatted in the shop a while back it came back missing some rather important files. Forgive this newbie's ignorance, please. But where else would I look, and how can I re-install it if I need to replace it? -
Hi guys I'm not sure if this is the right bit to post this in (mods please move as appropriate) I've just fitted a Liteon 20x DVD rewriter to my Packard Bell computer (which is about 5 years old and using XP Home). The DVD writer is working fine but for some reason I have lost all sound from my desktop speakers - I've checked that the volume controls are up and that the Realtek 97 has no fault. Any suggestions as to what might've happened. Please be gentle - I'm not too au fait with tech stuff. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well basically, when i go to shut down my computer it freezes when it gets to "Windows is shutting down", but it only freezes if my pc has been on for longer than around 30mins/hour. When i go to shut down my computer using start, i get an error message about dumprep and something like "failed to intailize", which happens to quick i can't read it. This error started to appear when it started freezing. I have tried disabling dumprep... i can't find it in both msconfig and regedit, but i disabled it through right click on my computer -> properties -> advanced -> Settings (startup and recovery -> and then under "Write debugging information i have selected none. I am running Windows XP Media Centre Edtion 2005 and today i upgraded to SP3 to see if that stopped the freezing, but didn't make no difference. So any help or tips to stop my computer from freezing would be greatly appriciated. Thanks, Joe :)

I have a ASUS DRW - 2014 L1T DVD-RW installed on a Vista-32 sp1 desktop PC. Recently it has stopped reading or recognising data DVDs (game, data, etc). It does recognise and play movie DVDs or CDs though. Nothing wrong with the failed DVDs as they work fine on different PCs. When I insert a game DVD, I see the green highlight on "my computer" window indicating it is reading the , then either of 3 things happen: 1) nothing happens at all 2) nothing happens and cd tray ejects with a message "insert disc" or 3) windows explorer fails to respond I have downloaded and flashed the manufacturer's latest firmware. Nothing. I had also an issue with a certain Vista update that randomly gives me a blue screen which I will ask in another thread. I don't know whether it's a coincidence or related to this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have an Acer Aspire 5672 with Windows XP Home Edition. Yesterday I started up my laptop and it did a disk check and found no problems then went to the password screen. Once it got to that screen none of the keys on my laptop worked and neither did my mouse pad so couldn't put the password in. I could only move the cursor with my mouse which plugs into the usb - it is has a fingerprint scanner on the reciever end which was also not working. When I put the cursor over the password box it changed to a hand and I couldn't click in it so still cant put in the password. The mouse also only works if it is plugged in when I turn it on and not if it's plugged in once it gets to the password screen. During startup I pressed F2 and saw under PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility that Password on Boot was Disabled and Set User Password wasnt able to be clicked on. I restarted it over 10 times now and have taken out the battery and put it back in, left it overnight and tried again and still no difference. I also did a system restore to 3 days ago when it was working fine but the same thing is still happening. I did manage to start up in safe mode and once it has started the mouse pad works and I can access everything so cant figure out why it is having problems at the password screen. I am running all anti-virus programs I have (avg/symantec/avast) and am also defragmenting to see if it'll help. I have just changed the settings so I dont have to enter the password to see if it'll let me in but am still waiting for all scans to finish. Also during safe mode when I plugged in my flash drive it didn't show up but dont know if that was just because its in safe mode. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? -
Hi Guys.This is the old PC. The text on the Monitor went Snowy.By that I mean white around the edges.It is a 19" LCD Flat Screen.Happened all of a sudden. Its a CHIMEI CMV936A. I Googled and can seem to find a help TUT to fine tune it. Just out of Warranty. Any help appreciated.:)

Not so great at this stuff. I update windows info. since then i cannot get my printer to work. when i go to start the spooler this message comes up Could not start Printer Spooler on local computer. Error 1058: The service could not be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled services associated with it. I have tried everything even downloading the printer CD. ??????????what to do?????? Thanks, Paula

I very recently bought a new HP DX2400 MT with Windows XP Professional SP2 and an new HP Notebook with Windows Vista. I transferred my existing files from my old computer to the DX2400 using a memory stick. After setting up the Internet connection an automatic update loaded SP3 to this computer. Following this my memory stick would not be recognised. Only a Kingston Datatraveller stick works but Cruzers do not. HP were contacted who suggested downloading an updated chipset driver and removing SP3. This was done but still the Cruzer won't operate. Plug this Cruzer into the Notebook and it operates OK, this Notebook has not been connected to the Internet or updated. On the DX the Cruzer is there in the Device Manager but not under the USB area. It has a Yellow Question mark against it but no Driver can be located when Windows searches. I downloaded the Cruzer U3 Driver but this does not work as Windows says the stick is not a Cruzer device!! Any clues or suggestions?:confused:

Hi, up until a month ago i could get sound from my computer, then my speakers got thrown away by accident as they were very old. I recieved a pair of speakers (Dell Model A225) which has a green wire and a USB plug. These do not work and i have tried umpteen times to find a driver from them on the net to no avail. Now i find out that i have no sound audio advice on my computer and i have tried to troubleshoot on the net but again it has come to no avail. So i was wondering whether anyone could help me out? My PC is made by NEC Computers, The system is POWERMATE VL5, I am on Windows XP Home Edition version 5.1 if anyone would like any more info the i could get it to you but i am not that well clued up on the techincal side of computers. Many Thanks p.s having read through a few of the posts on this forum and seeing the replies, i cannot do a system restore as i have no dates to go back to.

This set works fine on a laptop but refuses to cooperate on either the front or back inputs of the desktop. No sign of trouble in device manager. On trying to test in CP/Sounds, just get a very loud WAH WAH sound on playback. Any clues?. Cheers

Hi guys, I bought and installed a nework router at the weekend (netgear) it works fine and I can access the internet on desktop and laptop fine. However I can now no longer access my works computer from home!!!!! Tried ringing netgear to sort but they don't seem to be able to do it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks -
Hello, first post... I did do a search but couldn't trace this one. Just bought a new PC: Zoostorm Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 1TB 4GB DVD RW NVIDIA 8500GT 512MB Vista Home Premium - Ebuyer and this monitor: **£40 Cashback** Samsung T220 22" TFT Monitor 1680x1050 20,000:1 2ms VGA/DVI Rose Black 3 Years Onsite Warranty - Ebuyer and have been trying to install Flight Sim X for over a day now. Normally it'll hang during the first disc although I have got as far as half way through the scond before it hangs. I, probably stupidly, tried copying both discs to my desktop and tried installing it from there but no luck. Normally after it's hung, I can't then turn the PC off but have to hold the power swith in to turn it off. Not sure whether it's a hardware conflict or what but it's really getting to me now! Any help or suggestions would be most welcome... Thanks. Peter.

Hello all ,as far as computers are concerned im a complete novice really so I could really use some help! My wife recently borrowed a friends sd card out of their camera so she could put their photos on our pc, she put the sd card into our own camera and loaded the pics onto the pc , sounds straight forward enough but since doing it any and all photos on our pc flash purple and green even pictures on the web do it . Windows works fine ie the toolbar etc but if its a photo were stuffed . Our friends camera is a 7megapixel camera but ours is only a 5megapixel i dont know if that makes a difference ? The flashing effect on the pics mostly effects the dark areas of the pic. I know there is a genius out there who will just laugh at me and tell me a really simple fix but as i said im a novice at this PLEASE HELP :eek:

hi all sorry i cant post in introductions at the mo but my connection is unstable so i gotta be quick. basically i need to know how to connect my pc to a laptop (which i havent bought yet). im really useless when it comes to the terminology used so havent had much luck understanding anything ive found so far and would be grateful for any help you can give me. my pc has a cracked version of winxp pro (which i only discovered recently:mad:) and the pc itself was put together for me by someone about 2 yrs ago. I am currently connected via BTbroadband hub :confused: and as the pc is sooo unstable i want to buy a laptop so i can connect the two and transfer all my important files onto laptop (just incase something happens as the pc is very unstable). i havent got a clue where to start? please can you help:) -
Hi all, I've got a really annoying problem when surfing the internet. Quite often the pages won't load or will show a blank page. When using Firefox I get a message saying "Transferring data from xxxxx" and the page never appears. If I hit refresh it sometimes loads a tiny amount of the screen and then says "done" or it will display the code of the page. Sometimes it loads a blank grey screen, again saying the page has finished loading. After hitting refresh several times the page usually loads. I know my connection is ok because I can stream radio and play online games for hours without disconnecting, the problem only affects my web browsing. I've run the following scans: Avast! Anti-virus Spybot S&D AdAware Vundofix VirtumundoBeGone CCleaner I've also followed a manual guide on removing the vundo trojan, here: Firefox cannot load certain web sites (Vundo trojan) None of these methods have worked and I still have the problem, no matter what browser I use. However, if i boot my machine into safe mode with networking the problem isn't there and I can surf fine. I'm connecting to my router with an ethernet cable and have tried different filters and a different router, the problem still persists. Hi, To anyone who can help, Yesterday i tried to get an internet connection at an airport, as i was waiting to connect my flight was boarding so i closed down my laptop and boarded. Today i get home and switched my laptop on, i realised i wasnt automatically connected to my wireless internet, i tried connecting manually and all was happening was a blank window appearring after a few minutes. I plugged my CAT5 cable in and still no internet. I then thought i had somehow recieved a virus so i tried running Windows One Care, it said it was switched off or not working, i tried to run it so i could switch it on but it just wouldnt start at all. I then went to MSCONFIG and just looked around as i didnt really know what i was doing, i noticed in the 'Services' tab that about 98% of the services had been 'stopped' most were Microsoft Windows Services. I then tried to do a 'System Restore' however nothing at all happens, i tried again and a window popped up which said 'restore is already running' i left it running and still nothing happened, I tried this a couple of times after re-booting the laptop. I have gone into safe mode and it allowed me to do a system restore from there but it has not solved the problem. I am running Vista Home Premium and would appreciate any help.
