Guest Toni Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 On my WinXP computer, under Power Options, I have the option to "Shut down" Windows then I press the power button. However, on my Windows 2000 laptop, the only power options for when I press the power button are "Standby", "Hibernate", and "Power Off". How can I get Windows 2000 to Shut down Windows when the power button is pressed??? Thanks! Toni

But when I press the power button on WinXP, all open programs are gracefully Exited before shutting down (data is saved). Windows 2000 doesn't Exit the programs, it TERMINATES them (NO DATA IS SAVED). I unfortunately discovered this when I accidentally hit the Power button on my Win2000 laptop.
Guest Bob I Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Re: Shutting Down Win2000 and the Power Button That isn't what you asked. Windows is Shutdown, the method applications are terminated changed between the operating systems,(and changed again going to Vista for that matter) Toni wrote: > "Bob I" wrote... > >>Power Off IS Shut down Windows. >> > > > That's what I used to think! The WinXP system, being newer, probably utilizes APCI, which allows for more gracious power down.
