Removing Bluetooth

I am running XP Pro SP2. I have two different Motorola Cell phones that I

want to dl pictures to my computer. One is a Motorola Razr V3. The other is a

Motorola V-551. Both have Bluetooth capability.

I have installed and successfully downloaded data from the Razr using a

Bluetooth connection. Evidently, the Bluetooth software for the Razr phone is

not backward compatible with the earlier V-551 phone. I installed the

Motorola Bluetooth software that was provided with the V-551, to access that

phone (without success, I might add).

The V-551 software installed a Bluetooth link and icon in the control panel.

I think that that is conflicting with the Bluetooth version that is

compatible with the Razr. I cannot find any way to uninstall the Bluetooth

link in the control panel. There is nothing in the add/remove programs to

uninstall it, and nothing I can find in the add/remove hardware either. Does

anyone have a clue how I can remove this Bluetooth link from my system?

Thanks,

Re: Removing Bluetooth

If this problem is not too old, try a system restore to a date prior to the

551 installation. If you aren't familiar with system restore, check Help

and Support on the start menu. Should the entry still be on the control

panel, do a search on: *.cpl and find the .cpl file that corresponds

to 551 Bluetooth and rename the file by changing its extension to .bak.

Then see how things go.

Re: Removing Bluetooth

Ron,

Thank you for your quick response and helpful suggestions.

When I ran system restore, I discovered that it was turned off, so I

couldn't restore to previous setting. I think that a a virus/trojan horse,

etc. program called "RemoveIt Pro must have turned it off.

Next, I did a search for a *.cpl program like you suggested. I found several

..cpl programs. One in particular labeled btcpl. I renamed it btcpl.bak and

rebooted my system. At that point my wireless optical mouse stopped working.

I was able to use the keyboard to reset everything. Now I am back to square

one.

There are several files inthe Windows\System32 directory that are labeled

bt***.***. Many of them are .dll files. Do you have any more suggestions that

I might try?

Again, thanks for your help.

Re: Removing Bluetooth

Ed,

Too bad about system restore--it seems like a lot of the badies turn it off.

Regarding the add/remove program screen--a program is only listed if it is

installed. As you know, not all programs are installed so maybe it is a

matter of finding the folder containing the bluetooth files and moving it to

the recycle bin.

You might want to take a look at msconfig, startup tab, and see what is

being started at boot--maybe that will give you a clue. If you don't know

an entry, Google it.

I don't know what the name of the .cpl file would be; however, I don't have

Bluetooth on my PC and this is a list of the .cpl files I found on my PC so

the one you are looking for will not be in this list:

Re: Removing Bluetooth

Ron,

Again, thanks for the help. I was able to go into msconfig/startup and

deselect Bluetooth to run at startup. I then went into Windows/services and

changed Bluetooth from automatic to manual start. This seems to have solved

the problem. only time will tell.

Have a great 4th!
