Guest jamalsbro@gmail.com Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Hi All, Longtime lurker, first time poster.. I am trying to install a new virus porgram and cannot seem to get McAfee removed from my Dell Dimension 8400 running XP Pro. I have run all of the automated programs, tried to remove it using the system removal tool, and tried to remove the files manually. But not matter what, I cannot seem to get McAfee out! Please help I have tried everything but I know there has to be someone out there who can help me to get rid of it. Thank you! DJF

Use their Clean Up feature first. It might not be a bad idea to do the same thing in Safe Mode as Administrator. Course, all the time you've spent trying to get rid of the bugger could have been spent on a clean install which is the only sure way to remove all of Norton or McAfee's tentacles. Alias

I removed McAfee but the Windows Security Centre still reported that it was running as well as Zonealarm that I replaced it with. This is the response I got from McAfee's customer service. They were very helpful and this worked "Thank you for contacting McAfee Technical Support. My name is Sandhya M. Here is the process again, tailored for Windows XP: Start>Run>cmd [enter] net stop winmgmt [enter] cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem [enter] ren repository repository.old [enter] net start winmgmt [enter] It may take a minute or so to complete while WMI rebuilds the database.
