Guest jbclem Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I'm trying to figure out why my computer is locking up occasionally and I was hoping to spot some error in the Event Viewer (application). In the past there has always been a long list of application events. Now there is nothing there, even after I refresh it. Looking at the Event Viewer (system) there is also nothing showing, but when I refresh it the listings show up like they should. Could there be a corruption in the Event Viewer system, and how could I fix this if it is. John
Guest Dave Patrick Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Re: event viewer (application) not recording anything The Event Log service may not be running or the files may be corrupt. Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General, set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move) the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %systemroot%\system32\config then set the Event Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Vladimir Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 RE: event viewer (application) not recording anything Hello All, Looks like I have the same problem as was described above. I’m not sure is it really the same problem or not. What I have is the items in the list for “Application” are not displayed, but exist. It means that the list is empty, but I can see total number of events in the header of the frame. I can select empty event, but I’m receiving the following error while I’m double clicking it: AppName: mmc.exe AppVer: 5.2.3790.3959 ModName: ntdll.dll ModVer: 5.2.3790.3959 Offset: 0000b536 By the way, other items like Security, DNS etc. working perfect. I’ve tried to stop Event logging process and deleted all event logs located in %systemroot%/system32/config. This did not solve the problem. Any ideas so far? Thank you in advance, Vladimir
