You might try microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support for a start. Typical is a bad driver for a component that uses the network: e.g. LAN, Ethernet, PCMCIA, Wireless, etc. Make sure your drivers are up-to-date. Beyond that, please refer to the XP help group.
