Guest Leon Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Hi We have a 2003 scsi server with 5 raid disks. The system event viewer displays errors of could not write to disk3 some data might be lost. How do I remove the disk ? Do I just physically remove it and will the raid work with 4 disk ? Is it the same with sata ? Thanks

In most cases, when one drive goes bad in a RAID-5, you need to replace it immediately, if a second drive goes bad you will have a total loss of all data on that array. Normally you just install another drive in place of the defective one and the system will automatically rebuild the array, some require manual rebuild, others only do it when rebooting.... Contact your server builder and ask them. -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
Guest Dave Patrick Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Re: Remove Raid Disk I'd get in touch with those that setup the server or at least get some help from someone that has experience. No offence intended but this isn't something to trial and error with. It may be as easy as swapping out the bad disk but generally the operating system isn't aware of the individual disks that make up a hardware array so I wouldn't know from here exactly what to make of the message you're seeing. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
