Guest bajazza@yahoo.com Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Can anyone advise on how to remove this entry? It comes up as Antivirus XP2008 and it looks very legitimate, but I'm sure its not, being as obtrusive as it is. I've tried removing it from my add/delete programs file but no go. Does anyone even know what this does or is? It's incredibly annoying-pops up every 25 seconds or so with a message like...your computer was found to have 1564 virus, its is recommended that you use protection now!. I'm not too computer savvy so if you reply, could you 'dumb it down'? Thanks in advance! Jay

See below. Your system is infected with a rogue antivirus program. It is called "rogue" because it pretends to be A Good Guy but is really Evil. Do not pay them! Here are removal steps: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/uninstall-antivirus-2009 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic154529.html (earlier versions) These may work for you and all may be well. However, in many cases the computer will also be infected with Zlob and/or Vundo trojans and protected by a rootkit. These machines are extremely difficult to clean. If your machine is one of these cases, either get guided help at one of the specialty forums below OR back up your data and do a clean install of Windows. It is your choice. If you are unsure how to back up your data or how to do a clean install, you can take your machine to a local computer professional. I don't recommend using BigComputerStore/GeekSquad types of places. PLEASE DO NOT POST LOGS IN THE MS NEWSGROUPS. http://aumha.net/ - Click on the HijackThis forum. Apparently the horror of going off a cliff has caused you to think you are an MS-MVP when you aren't. Nor should anyone download files from a website which hosts pr0n. Chris, stop stalking be in Usenet, it's illegal Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it? And do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their posting identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP? -- - Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum. - Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist" spam999free@rrohio.com (remove 999 for proper email address)
