File recovery from removed profile HELP

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

Can I get back files from a profile I removed?

I setup new users on local PCs & copied the old profile to the new profile.

I then removed the old profile but apparently the Outlook .PST files stay in

the old profile & continue to point there. I now have several users w/ no

OL. Any ideas PLEASE.

Thx,

D

You could try one of the countless undelete tools that you will

find on Google. Your best bet is to install the tool on one machine,

then connect each affected disk as a slave disk to that machine for

the undelete process.

The overall issue is, of course, why you're not backing up your

users' Outlook files. In view of the importance that most users

place on their mail, it would seem mandatory to back them up

each day. If you have many users then you should consider installing

a Small Business Server (which includes MS Exchange). This would

give you the opportunity to perform a central backup.

After setting up a proper backup scheme, remember to perform

a test recovery immediately and then again once every six months.

You must also examine the backup report on a weekly basis. Without

those two measures your backups are close to useless.

Re: File recovery from removed profile HELP

Hi,

We have the OL Backup but apparently most users say no when it asks to

backup (when you close OL). Obviously we need a better method. Anyway, I

tried several of the file recovery programs but they don't appear to work.

Either they don't find the .PST file or it shows 0 bytes or an old date. Is

it possible to recover the files when the files & folders were removed by

deleting the user profile (System Properties/Advanced/User Profiles)?

Thx,

D
