Unable to safely remove drive

I have a firewire hard drive used for backup purposes (Norton Ghost).

Although no programs appear to be using it I get a message saying "one or

more programs is using this device . . " when I try to safely remove it by

clicking on the icon in the system tray.

Is there a program that will find out what is using the drive so we can stop

it?

See if you have InCD.exe running in your Task Manager (CTRL+Alt+Del) and stop

the process. Just run it again if you need it. It is program for Nero to

enable dragging and dropping files to copy.

You cana also try:

USB Disk Ejector 1.1.2

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/USB-Disk-Ejector.shtml

USB Disk Ejector is a small, simple and easy-to-use program that allows you

to quickly remove USB devices in Windows XP. Its essentially a replacement

for the 'safely remove hardware' feature. It will reveal the program using

the drive.

We don't have InCD running.

Unfortunately its a firewire disk and USB Disk Ejector doesn't seem to

recognise it.

Try:

USBEject 1.00 Trial Version (good for 10 runs)

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/USBEject.shtml

USBEject works with the following devices:

· USB Flash Drive (Flash Drive, Flash Memory, Pen Drive);

· USB Hard Disk;

· Firewire Hard Disk.

Re: Unable to safely remove drive [FIXED]

Hi.

Thanks for the tips.

I downloaded a process watcher and found the application that was using the

drive - PC-Cillin. I was able to able to remove the drive after switching

this off.
