I am unable to log into websites

I am not sure what to do. I am having problems logging into websites on my

computer. I will type in my username and password, hit enter and the page

will basically come back with the username and password spaces blank and it

doesn't log me in. I have reset all the settings back to default and still

nothing.

 

Do you have any suggestions? I can't call Dell as my service agreement has

expired and I can't afford to contact a professional at Microsoft even though

the rates are reasonable. So any advice you can give as to how to fix this

problem would be appreciated. I had to use my friends computer just to sign

on to ask this question.

 

The only thing is I don't know if my computer is an x64 Edition. I hope you

can still help.

I can't help with your logon problem, but it's easy to tell if you are

running a 64-bit operating system. You didn't say if you are running WinXP

or Vista, but the steps are basically the same.

 

<Start>+<Break>

 

That is, hold down the Start key (also known as the Windows Logo key), like

Shift key, while you press the Pause/Break key, in the upper right area of

most keyboards. (If you have an F-Lock key, you may need to toggle that.)

 

The System Properties page should pop up in your face. IF you are running a

64-bit operating system, it will say so on this page; 32-bit editions

usually don't mention "bitness" at all.

 

Even if you are running Vista x64, though, it runs the 32-bit version of

Internet Explorer by default. You have to specifically locate the 64-bit IE

if you want to run it.

Which websites are you trying to visit? Microsoft Communities does not

require you to log in.

 

If you'd like to read the same messages in a different format, just click

here:

http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general

 

That will start your newsreader (Outlook Express in WinXP, Windows Mail in

Vista, or any other newsreader that you may have installed) and connect you

to this newsgroup.

I run Windows XP Professional Edition on my computer. I will have to try that

trick when I get back to Florida on Sunday to see if it is a 64 bit or a 32

bit.

 

As far as what websites I can't log into, it is basically any website that

requires a login. They are not microsoft community websites. For an example,

I want to check my account at Sam's Club. I will try to login but the page

comes back with the username and password gone and I am back to the same page

with it saying Login required.

 

I think this has been happening since I installed Service Pack 3 because I

know it wasn't doing this before the installation. Any suggestions?

First off, have you changed ISP, router, or firewall settings when this

started?

Second, your security software could be interfering.

 

I've also seen this with certificate problems.

Unless you need it, turn off the checking.

 

Just three thoughts off the top of my (balding) pate.
