Guest kgkphd Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have been getting blue screen errors and have been following the recommended pattern for isolating them. One of the steps is to remove extaneous programs. Well,I seem to have icons on my desktop that I don't remember putting there. When I go into Control Panel - Add/Delete programs, these programs are not listed. If I right-click on the icon and hit delete, it tells me that only the icon will be deleted and that I have to go to Add/Delete in the Control Panel to zap the program. Catch 22. How do I get at these things? Thanks

Open a Notepad and minmise to your taskbar, then Right click the icons and select properties and copy the path to the Notepad. Do this to all icons you don't know or you want to remove/delete. Did you run a through scan for malware and viruses on this machine? Did this behaviour just occured or it is from long time but now your desktop got busy and going to do a make up op that didn't work because these icons gone absolute!!!
