A disc read error occurred

My anti-virus subscription ran out. I had been going to change the program

(Panda) anyway because they've stopped catering for W2K. I went for Sophos.

I uninstalled Panda then - stupidly forgetting I hadn't immediately

rebooted - I installed Sophos. A restart produced:

Verifying DMI Pool Data

Boot from CD:

Boot from CD:

A disc read error occurred

Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

That's as far as it will go.I don't even have access to my second W2K

emergency installation on HD5.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks

I would set the BIOS to boot from the hard disk. I would also remove the CD

from its drive.

Thanks a lot for this. After making the change I got the same message (minus

the 2 lines about Boot from CD). I restarted, pressed F10, and picked last

known Good Config., which allowed me in.

I'm now in a quandary. Should I reboot as is, or is there something I can do

to stabilize things first?

Why do you think I'm gettin the disc read error? What program can I run to

check what the problem is now that I have Admin tools available?

Thanks.

HD may be failing...backup your data AT ONCE

next run the mfg's HD diagnostic...usually a free download from the mfg of

your drive
