What is a "unknown device" ?

Recommended Posts

Due to some big problem I had been forced to perform an in-place upgrade

of Windows.

Now Windows runs well again but now I am requested to reinstall 9

drivers of type "unknown device" , "PCI bus" and "PCI device" !

I inserted some of the CDs I have, but the drivers have not been found.

The main problem is that installing a driver, Windows wants to know what

type of driver I am going to install.

But I have no idea what a "unknown device" is.

I run Driver Magician using the backup I made 3 months ago, but nothing

changed.

Can you please help me?

Horst

A number of things to try:

Install the chipset drivers that came with the mobo...

or else just choose go go "on line" and look for drivers

Re: What is a "unknown device" ?

You need to determin the make/model of motherboard then visit their site for

chipset and other drivers

Or if its a large OEM pc eg Dell/HP or Laptop visit their site for drivers

specific to the model.

Belarc Adviser will reveal a wealth of info on your PC
