Guest SteM Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hi there, this morning my Windows2000SP4 desktop started with the 680x480 resolution and the keyboard not running at the login window. The keyboard is ok at the bios and til the F8 start menu. If i choose the debug mode, the keyboard is still dead. I tried with a Linux live boot cd and I have no problem. I guess a problem on the keyboard drivers but the Recovery disk does nothing. Can i manually substitute the keyboard driver? Which drivers??? Help !! -- SteM

Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Re: Keyboard not running I would check the Event Viewer (c:\winnt\system32\eventvwr.exe) for relevant messages. I would then check the Device Manager (via Control Panel / System). The "Keyboard" device has (among others) a tab for the driver details. I would also log on under a different account in order to check if the problem was machine-specific or user-specific. To log on without a keyboard can be a little tricky. You would have to perform some off-line registry editing in order to implement the instructions from the link below. Post again if you need further help and report if you have administrative access to the machine over a network. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310584 "SteM" <xxx@yyy.zz> wrote in message news:OkJF15xKJHA.4708@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Yes, I tries both with a USB and PS2 ! > -- > SteM > > "Pegasus (MVP)" <I.can@fly.com.oz> ha scritto nel messaggio > news:eIdw4huKJHA.5232@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> >> "SteM" <xxx@yyy.zzz> wrote in message >> news:ugOMjOtKJHA.5448@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >>> Hi there, >>> this morning my Windows2000SP4 desktop started with the 680x480 >>> resolution and the keyboard not running at the login window. >>> The keyboard is ok at the bios and til the F8 start menu. >>> If i choose the debug mode, the keyboard is still dead. >>> I tried with a Linux live boot cd and I have no problem. >>> I guess a problem on the keyboard drivers but the Recovery disk does >>> nothing. >>> Can i manually substitute the keyboard driver? Do you know the IP address of the problem machine? Its NetBIOS name? Can you ping it? If you cannot reach the problem machine via the network then you have to connect its disk as a slave disk to some other machine in order to edit its registry. If you're not experienced in such things then you may soon get into water that could be too deep for you. If so then a re-installation of Windows might be a more attractive option. Make sure to have a verified backup of your important files (including your EMail files!) before you go down this track.
Guest SteM Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Re: Keyboard not running I tried with the Recovery console run from the CD. I run chkdsk; it seemed to point to some disk errors but they are present even if i re-run the chkdsk. I guess a more serious problem on the disk ... -- SteM "Pegasus (MVP)" <I.can@fly.com.oz> ha scritto nel messaggio news:O6mzcARLJHA.5232@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > > "SteM" <xxx@yyy.zzz> wrote in message > news:erj7sPQLJHA.5060@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Thanks, >> but i'm not able to access to the remote registry .. my guess is that the >> network is also down :( >> -- >> SteM > > You're not telling us a great deal about your network connectivity.
