Guest edimerq Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Is there some way to remove no longer used notification items from the Taskbar and Start menu properties? I mean that place you find when you --- Right click on the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop, (click Properties), (click Hide inactive icons), (click Customize) then look in (Past Items). In that place there is a antivirus 2009 folder, which is a virus I already removed from my computer, and that is the only thing I am not able to remove. I don't want to download any more softwares to remove it. I've already done that. I just want to know if there is a way to remove things from that place on my own. -- emm
Guest Ray Parrish Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Re: Removing no longer used notification items from taskbar and startu Here's how you do it - 1.Open Regedit, Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify 2.Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values 3.Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click Explorer.exe , and then click End Process . 4.In Task Manager, click File , click New Task , type explorer , and then click OK . It got rid of all those unneeded icons. Specially that hateful antivirus 2009 folder. I don't know why I did not ask that question earlier. I supposed they will start to build up again. But now I know what to do. Thanks again. -- emm "Ray Parrish" wrote: > Here's how you do it - > > 1.Open Regedit, Go to: > > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify > > 2.Delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream values > > 3.Open Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click Explorer.exe , and > then click End Process . > > 4.In Task Manager, click File , click New Task , type explorer , and > then click OK . > > Later, Ray Parrish > > edimerq wrote: > > Is there some way to remove no longer used notification items from the > > Taskbar and Start menu properties?
