Guest wotens Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Hi, What can be wrong with my computer? The OS - Windows XP Pro 64 - turn on and off all the time. This is something that started 2 month ago, and before that It have worked without any problem. I have not change any hardware of pheripheral, it is exacly the same as it was when it worked without any problems; the only difference can be that I now have SP 3 installed. No change in the software. happy for an answer, Ulf
Guest Maratonmannen Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 RE: On- and -off... Not an answer to your problem, but there is no SP 3 for XP x64. The latest service pack is SP 2. -- Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro Core™ 2 Extreme X6800 2 x VelociRaptor RAID 0 8GB DDR2 800MHz GeForce 8800GTX Eizo 30" Enermax 1000W 75A@+12V LAN 100/100 XP x64 SP2 dualboot Vista x64 SP1 (slipstreamed) "wotens" wrote: > Hi, > What can be wrong with my computer? Guest Dominic Payer Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Re: On- and -off... Assuming there is nothing in your Event log to indicate system problems: 1. Check that your PSU is not failing - fan or component failure can cause it to overheat and deliver variable power before eventually giving up altogether. 2. Check for dust build-up between your CPU fan and heat sink. If you shine a light through the fan you should see the cooler fins clearly. If you can't, remove the fan and clear the dust mat. 3. Any failing component - internal or external - can cause intermittent problems. Disconnect or remove everything non-essential and replace them one by one until you find the problem component. Guest wotens Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Re: On- and -off... Hi, Thank you for that answer. Now I know - it must be a hardware problem. Thank you again.
