And will continue to grow but that's OK as harddrives continue to push

into the terrabyte size range.

FWIW, I still have the 200 megabyte (Yeah, 200 MEGAbyte!) Maxtor that I

thought was so HUGE when I spent a fortune to buy it. I wonder what I

could use it for today?

In fact, yes. The thing can update itself by downloading less than the

whole thing. There are some serious caveats with this however. #1 is

that most of the time it just doesn't work. #2 is that expects you to

permanently leave the expanded Nero 7 install files in your temp

directory. It ends up easier just to download the whole thing and

install it over the top. Oh, and then try to figure out just which

documentation you need to download and reinstall.

Just another thing about Nero 7 which is 100% worse than Nero 6.

I still remember my first approach in the university and with my brother who

told me use as much as possible the computer since the first beginning as

he's computer specialist, PC with 2 Floppies of 5 1/4 and no HD, the first

one I saw with HD was of 10 Mb, and I though at that time, that nothing

could fill up that disk, my first laptop I get a 486 with 40Mb, and I said

at that time, how could I fill up such capacity (and no CD just FD) and a

modem with a speed of 4800 (as option and very expensive), and I remember

that with a dial-up connection I flied in the internet as I never have flied

again, so we see how is it.

time are changing, I don't know if it's for better or worst time.

You can use Nero ProductSetup to update your Nero 7 Suite install to the

latest release version. I do that everytime I still have my original 7.3 exe

then use ProductSetup to update to the latest version. It's a lot quicker

that way.

Yes, it's a mental flaw in humanity, we cannot bare to look at emptyness -

empty spaces are there to be filled. Everybody has a drawer full of socks

and CD's and old batteries and notes and wrenches and half eaten

sandwiches - get a new chest with deeper drawers and when you've moved the

stuff over it'll be just as full.

What do you think NASA is doing? They are trying to figure out a way to

ultimately fill up the Universe!

Dang! What does Nero do that it needs that much code? The burner

software I use is a 2.8MB download and is freeware to boot.

How right you could be about drawers.

I'm merchant marine and I used to put into my luggage one box of cigars with

the wires, connections, spare rechargeable batteries, etc. that was up to

two years ago, but now I've to exchange to a Porto's wine box, approximately

twice or 4 times the old one, and it's absolutely full, when I leave this

time for work, I don't know how I accommodate it in the baggage.

Except, as Graham wrote, it doesn't work, I tried it. Worse, when I

started the update it said it had to uninstall the existing Nero and

would reboot and then resume the update. It removed the existing,

rebooted, began to download the update and got a time out so it quit.

When I tried to resume it I got a popup that "No qualifying product was

found" because, remember?, it had already removed my qualifying

product!

I re-installed Nero 7, downloaded the update separately and then did

the update. That worked.

I strongly recomment people download the update rather than letting

Nero try to update itself, you'll save time even if the download takes

a couple of hours (it did!)

I suspect my problem was that the Nero servers were overloaded since

the upgrade just came out, downloading the entire update took several

hours.

Probably in a week or so the update will work with no problems.... But

like others, I WANT IT NOW! CAN'T WAIT! I'm as bad as those standing

in line to pay $500 for an iPhone that'll be selling for $250 in a few

weeks..... ;-)

I really, really did want it now. I had an older version of Nero that

wasn't Vista 64 compatible and have continued to dual boot with XP

until ALL my Vista problems are solved. I'd debated spending money on

Roxio but the free upgrade fixed my problems and Vista 64 is, as of

now, an OS I can use to replace XP. That upgrade was the last piece of

the puzzle.

It's been a long time getting there, probably the proper action would

have been to post a loooooooog "Vista Sucks" whine in

microsoft.public.windows.vista.general and listen to the trolls tell me

to get Ubuntu (Never, I LIKE Mandriva 64!) but somehow I just didn't

think that would be useful. <BSEG>

After downloading and installing the upgrade, I'm not sure patches

would have been able to do what the update does. There are multiple

versions of Nero out there, mine happens to be Nero Essentials which

is different from Nero Express which is differenct from Nero this or

Nero that.

The update works for all versions, it selects the products you have and

updates them and then selects the products you don't have and, believe

it or not(!), installs trial versions of them.

Since Nero Essentials is a very stripped down version of the full Nero

suite, I've got a lot of trial software removing to do.... I guess it's

good marketing strategy and I don't like it but I DO admire the genius

that set it up!

PS, I could have de-selected installation of the trial stuff during

setup but they don't tell you it's a trial version....

OK, here's what I want. Nero BurningROM. JUST NeroBurningROM. And I want to

not have to download hundreds of GB of useless bloatware to get it. AND have

it try to install malware into my browser at the same time. KISS. I use Nero

for exactly one thing. Burning disks. Primarily .ISO images. And yes, I know

there are lots of simpler programs out there, but I've found that Nero's

verify actually catches any burn problems, and the others mostly don't have

that feature.

No problem, two ways to do this. You can do the update or download the

entire update and deselect everything you don't want during setup.

I could have done the same but I didn't know what all the other stuff

was?

As far as the browser toolbar, just uncheck the box, that's easy.

If you want just the Burning Rom portion maybe Nero Micro is for you...

The best stand-alone program I've found for image burning is ImageBurn. It

has the verify option that you desire.

I've switched over to this one:

http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/?page_id=5

Under 'other download options' you will find the one for x64 editions of

Windows.

Nice and small (under 3 MB download), works a treat for ISO images. And

it's free :-))
