Guest Bruce Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Recently in my Win2K: 'SEARCH ' item on the 'START' button is missing; right-click (on a drive or file) sometimes does nothing and/or 'PROPERTIES' on the right-click menu never works if I do get a menu. I have run Adaware, Spybot, Avast & XoftSpy. They all find nothing of note [log files, and tracking cookies perhaps]. Obviously somthing, somewhere, sometime changed something in the registry I'm guessing. I have looked on Microsoft's knowledge base, but never found anything close to my problem. I have looked for information about the registry elsewhere, but there is soooooooo much, that I have not been able to sift through it to find what I need. I would enjoy knowing what I can do 1] to bring back 'SEARCH' 2] to get specific information about the registry relating to controlling features like this in Win2K Thank you in advance to any/every body for their help. Enter gpedit.msc in the Run box and look at: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu & Taskbar John Bruce wrote: > Recently in my Win2K: 'SEARCH ' item on the 'START' button is missing; > right-click (on a drive or file) sometimes does nothing and/or 'PROPERTIES' > on the right-click menu never works if I do get a menu. > > I have run Adaware, Spybot, Avast & XoftSpy. Guest Bruce Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Re: SEARCH missing Thank you John John: the HKEY settings were still set to enabled, but the gpedit did the trick. Thanks again, but where can I find information on all of these registry settings. I don't mind a BSOD and re-installing windows - if I learn something.
