Guest Zone_V Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Hi, Yesterday, my PC automatically updated and rebooted following a patch received from Microsoft update. The system event viewer shows the following event: Restart Required: To complete the installation of the following updates, the computer will be restarted within 5 minutes: - Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2007 (KB890830) - Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB926122) After the reboot, it appeared that my desktop was completely reset as if I had just reinstalled Windows2000. I think what happend is that the patch somehow changed the folder references used under Documents and Settings to a new version of my user. If I look under c:\documents and settings\ I see: Administrator All Users Zone_V Zone_V.Matterhorn From what I can tell, it looks like my account user, Zone_V is pointing to Zone_V.Matterhorn instead of Zone_V. All the registry entries I need are also associated with Zone_V. How can I: Change things so that my user references Zone_V instead of Zone_V.Matterhorn? Then, how can I delete Zone_V.Matterhorn? FWIW: Matterhorn happens to be PC Name. Thanks for any help! -- Zone_V
Guest Roger Fink Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Re: Documents and Settings follow a recent Microsoft KB Patch This could be it: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=40985 . If you have a way to revert the system to a time before the patch was installed you might try that. My sense is that most of the MVPs on the OS boards don't have much affection for GoBack, but for 98 & 2000 I don't know how you can run Windows without it.
