Guest JR Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 After a recent crashed install of norton systemworks, completely lost the recycle bin - probably from a lot of manually deleted registry entries. Couldn't use the registry backup just before the install as it would not ''find'' the keyboard (even though device present). ugh? Could create shortcut to re/bin but showed as hidden and could be edited.... Went through earlier registry and exported all the keys relating to th re/bin on the desktop (namespace and the clsid entries) and imported to current registry. Now have desktop re/bin back with full and proper function. However, do NOT have same in explorer view. For example, rename desktop re/bin to 'junk' and fine. Does NOT change name in explorer drive view (drives c to k). Also in explorer view, only the 'empty' icon is showing, not changing when item is stored. Can rename each re/bin in explorer differently and DELETE it from explorer - it then re-appears named 'recycled'. Another quirk that is related. Opening desktop properties and selecting the tab to change common icons, the words ''recycle bin empty'' and ''full'' have been replaced with ''network places empty'' and ''full'' - but with re/bin icons. (also insists on creating a ''my pictures'' folder at same time as looking - even though all refs to this removed from registry!) Although not a vital issue, I want to fix this out of principle! I don't like being beaten! Can anyone help please with 1) Where does 'desktop properties' get its information from (no ref in any file or registry to 'network places empty' etc.) 2) What keys define the re/bin for explorer view 3) How do I stop forever programs trying to create 'my pictures' and 'my documents' at appointed location, with all registry entries removed. best rgds John R Somerset UK ps. win2k pro fully up to date
