Guest io Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Hello: I recently went to make a purchase online & found that the page where my credit card info was required did not appear to be secure. In other words, there was no "https" in the address bar & no "lock" appearing in the toolbar. This page did contain a verisign insignia, presumably advertising its security. I declined the purchase and sent a note to the company regarding the "security" of their site. I received a message from them with a link to their secure ordering page, clicked the link in the email (using Outlook Express 6) and was taken to the same "insecure" site. I then copied $ pasted the link into IE7's address bar & was taken to what appeared to be a properly secured site (https + lock symbol in toolbar). These pages seemed otherwise identical. So I'm wondering, is there some (perhaps, known) problem with IE7/OE6 on X64 & https:\\ links or was this the result of some problem with the web page? Software used: IE7, OE6, Windows XP Pro X64. Thanks for any insight (or redirection to where I might find it). io

It should be noted, however, that clicking on a link in OE will launch the 64-bit version of IE, not the 32-bit version. Many web sites can have issues with 64-bit IE. Further, it's _always_ a good idea to use copy and paste to go to a site where you plan on entering any personally identifiable information. Much less credit card information. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "io" <io@nowhere.net> wrote in message news:uSe1slMyHHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Hello: > > I recently went to make a purchase online & found that the page where my > credit card info was required did not appear to be secure.
