I think you may find more information relative to your

situation by Googling for "play .TiVo files"

You will find there are lots of links to groups dealing with

Tivo and even mentions of Codecs.

From what I read there are no Codecs. You need to purchase

some software called "TiVo Desktop Plus" to conver the TiVo

file to one that can be played on your computer.

System Requirements:

* A Personal computer running Microsoft® Windows® XP,

Service Pack 2. TiVo Desktop does not yet work with Windows

Vista.

Re: Vista 64 WMP and .Tivo

Thanks Theo,

Actually I found a modification that modified the MSI with Orca and then it

will install on Vista64, I can then download a .Tivo file but WMP won't play

it. I did search the TiVo site but of course Vista isn't officially

supported yet so no information available. I vaguely remember Carlos talking

about codec's but at the time didn't even know what they were needed for, so

thought I'd try this list.

To get better qualified answers why don't you go to some of

the Tivo forums? There were several listed when I searched

before and there were many pointedly discussing running the

files on Windows.

I have been, read for hours, but so far no one has spherically mentioned

Vista 64 and you know how picky it is. I do appreciate you taking time to

respond.

Re: Vista 64 WMP and .Tivo

Bill:

I am not familiar with the tivo file format and had never used it.

However, you might want to try this:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tivodecode/

It is a 32-bit decoder but that it's Ok, because the default WMP is 32-bit

also.

Create a restore point, just_in_case, install it and see if it works.

There is also a freeware Tivo Mplayer here:

http://tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net/

Good luck!

Re: Vista 64 WMP and .Tivo

Thanks Carlos,

I had already downloaded those projects, I was hoping for an easier way. I

could not compile them on either my 64 bit machine or 32 bit machines. To

many missing or unable to load libraries. So I give up for now. Guess I'll

have to wait for TiVo to decide to support vista and 64 bit. It works fine

with XP Pro in my 2007 Virtual machine.
