Guest blitz22080 Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I just updated my system to 4GB of memory, and ever since the hibernation option under power options is not available. If I reduce the memory back to 2GB, it automatically reappears next time I boot up. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of ram hibernation supports in XP x64 Pro, or if there is anything I can do to enable hibernation with 4GB of memory? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. -blitz22080
Guest Dominic Payer Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: XP x64 Pro Hibernation Issue See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888575. Hibernation should work with 4GB. See the Note under Workaround in the KB article. You may also - instead of the switch - be able to adjust your BIOS settings to map the PCI memory resources above the 4GB boundary. Guest blitz22080 Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: XP x64 Pro Hibernation Issue Thank you for your help, this has certainly put me in the right direction as the system now has hibernation active. Unfortunately, after inserting the /MAXMEM=4096 to the boot.ini file, Windows Pro x64 now only recognizes 3GB of ram, and not the entire 4GB that I have installed, and that it did recognize before making the /MAXMEM=4096 switch. Should I attempt to experiment with the value for the /MAXMEN switch, such as setting it to 5120, or are there any other ideas? It is greatly appreciated. -blitz22080 "Dominic Payer" wrote: > See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888575. Hibernation should work with > 4GB. > > See the Note under Workaround in the KB article. Guest Dominic Payer Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Re: XP x64 Pro Hibernation Issue By default the motherboard will be set to assume you have a 32 bit operating system and the maximum memory you could address would be 4GB. There are some motherboard BIOS settings which can be changed - if they exist - to allow you to map the PCI memory above 4GB and use 4GB of RAM, or more if your board supports it. The settings you will probably have are Software memory hole remapping and Hardware memory hole remapping which can both be enabled. These are effective only for a 64-bit OS. You may also have a setting for MTRR mapping mode which may be set to Discrete or Continuous. You will need to experiment to find the best, stable settings for your motherboard.
