Guest Tom Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 On my Windows 2000 Pro laptop with my HD partitioned as C: and D:, I just repartitioned the D: drive to give me more space using V-COM's Partition Commander (I booted from the PC CD). While using the boot CD, I saw a menu item labelled "Change SID". I figured that it would present me with a dialog that would show the present SID for my hard drive. However, I got an hourglass and I guess it must have changed it without asking - damn! After booting, I logged in as a Administrator and did some disk defragging (DiskKeeper). I also installed the lastest MS updates using Windows Update (except for the .NET updates). Horror of horrors, I've lost my non-Administrator usernames! My two Administrator usernames work fine. But my two no-Administrator users are GONE! When I log in with my username MainUser, it lets me in with my password, but I've got a clean desktop! When I go into C:\Documents and Settings, I see the following directories: MainUser MainUser.ComputerName SecondUser SecondUser.ComputerName The <user>.ComputerName entriesd are new. MainUser and SecondUser appear to have all my old settings Was it the SID change? Was it the Windows updates? Why is it only user accounts and not admin accounts? PLEASE, WHAT IS GOING ON and how do I resture/recover my user settings????? HELP!!! Tom in Desperate Trouble
Guest Tom Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Re: HELP - Corrupted User Accounts? I found this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314045 and used it to retore one of the profiles (not my main one), but now it won't save ANY of my settings - folder, display, wallpaper, etc. HELP! Tom
