Sorry pal. That is your job. You elected yourself to do that and that

seems to be all you're capable of doing.

You know how weak that makes you appear to be?

Extremely weak!

You elected yourself to try to be a net cop. Sorry, Frankie you stink

at it.

You know how weak you come across? No of course not. That's because

you're a idiot that tries to paint himself as a very rich business

owners with property in Southern Europe. What a hoot! More likely the

REAL Frankie is very similar to this guy.

WARNING adult language, but a hoot and what most think Frankie is

really like.

Well actually, the thing about linux is that it is unix based and it

has always done the UAC thing. It just does it in a rather different

way.

Normal users don't get admin rights. Those are left to root. Sure the

normal user can use su, or sudo, enter root's password and thus gain

control of the system but it is even more effort than clicking "Yeah.

Go on then" or whatever in Vista.

Thus, if you download a virus and it is able to do anything at all

with your linux/unix system the most that will happen is that it will

mess up your user's home directory. It has no access to the system

files under /sys, /usr, /sbin, /sbin etc and it does not even have

access to the home directories of other users.

Now for my reason for posting this. It is not to promote linux but to

ask why Windows does not adopt a similarly conservative approach on

who can trash the system.

When Vista was on its way, I heard about UAC and thought that we were

going to get such a sensible regime. Most people who have problems

get them from fiddling around or from downloading something bad. The

extra step of specifically logging on with admin rights might prevent

a lot of headaches and MS must have realised this (I reasoned).

Instead, by default, the first person to create an account becomes the

administrator and before letting a dodgy bit of code run, the most you

get is "this might be dangerous. Are you sure that you want to run

it" which is so run of the mill that most people click yes even if the

name of the file is "I-am- a-big-fat-virus.exe".

Some protection.

PS there are viruses for Linux but there aren't many and they are

primarily proof of concept. There is even some open source anti virus

stuff available (although I think it might be mainly for linux mail

servers serving mail to windows machines).
