Guest mahesh Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 All I have all the contents of an installable XP 64 DVD copied onto my hard disk. Now I want to re-create an installable DVD from these contents on the HDD, but am not sure how to. This is to distribute the DVD within our group for upgrading all the computers. Can somebody point me to a resource which willhelp me create this DVD from the contents on the HDD? Thanks, Mahesh
Guest Theo Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Re: creating an installable DVD for XP 64 If you are copying the DVD legally, then why not just copy it directly making multiple copies in the process? Make sure the copies are verified by what ever program you use. Copying the files to your hard drive will not give you a bootable DVD. If you're really referring to Windows XP x64, it's a CD not a DVD. Vista is a DVD. mahesh wrote: > All > > I have all the contents of an installable XP 64 DVD copied onto my hard > disk. Guest mahesh Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Re: creating an installable DVD for XP 64 Thanks Theo. This is legal copy. We have multiple user license for XP 64, and we can make multiple installations. The reason this is on the hard disk is because every time we get any OS/software/etc. into the group, we make a backup on a share drive so that even if the CD/DVD is lost (which usually is the case because it moves around within the group of 15) then we can retrieve it from teh share drive. So from your reply, it seems there is no way to make an installable disc (CD or DVD ) from the contents on the share drive? Thanks in advance. Guest Theo Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Re: creating an installable DVD for XP 64 There is definitely a way to do it. I use Nero to make my bootable CDs and DVDs. You need a copy of "Microsoft Corporation.img" for the boot file. I used IsoBuster to extract my copy from my CD. If you search the internet for "make a bootable cd" you will find lots of references. One is: http://www.thetechguide.com/win2kbootcd/ Although this one specifically addresses Win 2000, the procedure is exactly the same for XP (& x64), 2003 (& x64). mahesh wrote: > Thanks Theo. > > This is legal copy. Guest S.SubZero Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Re: creating an installable DVD for XP 64 You can also try nLite (http://www.nliteos.com/) which lets you slipstream service packs and hotfixes and other things, and can spit out a bootable iso. It allows you to copy additional files to the image before it creates it. It should be able to make something that can be burned to a DVD.
