Guest Theo Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 Re: 4 GB of RAM in x64 Because that is a design feature of the Intel 8086 chip dating back to the early 1980's when it was perceived that no one would ever have that much memory nor need to approach that memory limit! It's called a memory hole. It's just below the 4GB boundary and that is where the BIOS information is place when the system boots.
