some tasks cause system freeze

I have 2 main problems:

 

1. when AVG updates it causes a system freeze and I must restart the cpu.

 

2. when i work with big size files (wordperfect) and i try save it the

wordperfect causes a 100% cpu saturation and a system freeze.

Although I can't help on your second question, I did switch from

AVG to the avast! virus checker. I've been pleased with it, and

it has worked without problem with both XP x64 and Vista x64.

Try un-installing AVG.
