Guest David F Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 I know that IE7 Vista X64 does not run Java runtime environment. What other differences are there between Vista X64 and Vista X32? Also, aren't there a lot of web sites that use JRE and doesn't this cause major compatibility problems? TIA
Guest David F Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Re: Differences: X64 and X32 Vista? I realize one difference is that the Vista X64 addresses more RAM. Also, I read that the Vista X64 is based on the Windows Server 2003 codebase and it is more stable than Vista X32. Is that true? Guest Carlos Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 RE: Differences: X64 and X32 Vista? David: IE7, as well as WMP, come in two flavours: 32-bit and 64-bits. In both cases, the default one in Vista x64 is the 32-bit version. So, when you click on the IE7 icon, it is IE7 32-bit the one running. You can install JRE 32-bit and visit your favourite sites with no problems. Carlos "David F" wrote: > I know that IE7 Vista X64 does not run Java runtime environment. The 32-bit runs JRE just fine, and is the default. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "David F" <dfumento@ATDomaingmail.com> wrote in message news:9C9A4197-994C-4C65-B759-ECA45C35571A@microsoft.com... >I know that IE7 Vista X64 does not run Java runtime environment. Guest Theo Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Re: Differences: X64 and X32 Vista? I don't think Vista x64 is based on Server 2003 code. Windows XP Professional x64 is based on Windows Server 2003 code, however. I was under the impression there was a strong relation between Vista, both x86 & x64, and Server 2008. Guest Charlie Russel - MVP Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Re: Differences: X64 and X32 Vista? Windows Vista, both 32-bit and 64-bit, are the same core code base. They are closely related to Server 2008 (aka, Longhorn), which has yet to be released. The relationship ov Vista to XP/2003 is rather more tenuous - Vista 32-bit and 64-bit are completely new versions of an operating system that traces its roots back to Windows NT 3.1. And I'm sure there is still some code floating around in the OS that existed back then. But there's a whole lot more that is completely new. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "Theo" <theo@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:enpPxAq2HHA.4476@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I don't think Vista x64 is based on Server 2003 code.
