Guest thecreator Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi All, Why does Internet Explorer 64 Edition work with Windows Update within the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system? Update saids you need to use the Internet Explorer 32-bit version instead. How come? Will this hold true for Vista 64-bit as well? Or Vista 64 Bit uses a different method in accessing Update. -- thecreator
Guest Theo Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Because there is no ActiveX for the 64-bit version of I.E. and the Microsoft requires ActiveX do accomplish it's intended function. No ActiveX no Update capability. thecreator wrote: > Hi All, > > Why doesn't Internet Explorer 64 Edition work with Windows Update within > the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system? Guest Theo Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition You'll have to ask Bill Gates. Guest John Barnes Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition It is different for Vista64 as it uses a different process. You can launch windows update from either 32 or 64. Guest Theo Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition But in Vista you're not using Internet Explorer for Windows Updates. Vista has it's own Update program. John Barnes wrote: > It is different for Vista64 as it uses a different process. Guest John Barnes Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition I said 'different process' also from the tools of IE (either one) you can launch it. What exactly is your problem? Guest Theo Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Re: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition I don't have a problem. I was merely pointing out the update process in Vista doesn't actually function in I.E., that Vista has it's own Update program. So, there is no ActiveX being called in Vista's I.E.
