Error Loading OS, but load if WinXP cd is inserted(??)

Hello,

I have a a WinXP sp2 machine that sudenly started giving an error loading OS

message. I checked the hardware connections, replaced cables, checked

jumpers, verified the HD, partition, and everything I can think off. All

seems to be okay.

By mistake I turned the machine on when the WinXP CD was inserted in the CD

drive and noticed the OS loaded from the disk just fine (not from the CD). I

tried several times with the CD inserted and without it. It always loads when

the CD is in, and always fails when there is no CD.

If I run scandisk it finds no errors.

Any idea?

Thank you,

Carlos

Carlos:

This is an x64 based newsgroup.

However, since your name is Carlos...

Set your BIOS to boot off the CD.

Choose Repair console and then run the fixmbr and fixboot commands.

Remove the CD and reboot.

That should do it.

Carlos.

Spanish version (just in case).

Carlos:

Atte.

Double check that your BIOS still points to the correct HD and that the

partition with the boot files on it is still 'active'

Carlos:

Más o menos el mismo significado aquí en Argentina.

More or less the same meaning down here in Argentina.

A tu disposición para cuando me necesites.

Un abrazo latino.

John,

I did check it too and everything was correct. I just fixed the problem

using fixmbr and fixboot as adviced by Carlos before.

Thank you,
