Guest David Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Hi, I have windows 2000 server installed on a server with 2 partitions. Now windows 2000 doesn't boot, gives this message: "Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced startup options for windows 2000, press F8." In safe mode doesn't boot as well. So I tried to insert original CD, and tried to make repair option, but I've got the message saying he doesn't find a windows 2000 installation. What can I do to repair this installation? Thanks.

What is the recent history of this machine?
Guest David Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Re: Windows installation repair This server has 12 drives and 2 drives died. After imaging the drives and insert them again in the server gave this message. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Re: Windows installation repair Wow! Speaking about witholding essential information. It's just as well my crystal ball is unavailable (it's getting its regular monthly cut & polish), otherwise I might not have been forced to ask the important questions . . . In your situation I would do this: - Format a floppy disk on some other Win2000/XP PC. - Copy these files from the \i386 folder of your Win2000 CD to A:\ ntldr ntdetect.com - Copy c:\boot.ini to a:\ - Add a few lines so that a:\boot.ini looks like so: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="1 Microsoft Windows Server" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="2 Microsoft Windows Server" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINNT="3 Microsoft Windows Server" - Boot the machine from this floppy disk with each boot option in turn, to see which one works.
